Abstract

A wrapping machine for making a number of containers into a unit packed in a synthetic film sealed by a welding electrode, has a feeder; an aligner and a transporter for the containers; together with an arrangement for moving the welding electrode to and from each unit. The transporting arrangement includes a first endless chain conveyor for the electrodes, following a path a section of which runs towards the first chain conveyor at an angle alpha to the horizontal, and after passing round a chain wheel or two chain wheels, runs away at the same angle. Each conveyor has two chains positioned one on each side of the machine in parallel vertical planes, each provided with carriers arranged to work together. The 1st conveyor runs at a speed (V1) and 2nd conveyor at a speed (V2) adjusted so that V1=V2 cos alpha. Each of the hot electrodes is supported transversely by two carriers on chains and is taken over by two carriers on the 1st conveyor. During the motion on the first conveyor the welding takes place, the fim being seamed and cut, befor the electrode is taken over again by the rising 2nd conveyor; te supporting points of the electrodes on the carriers of chains being offset from the circumference of the chain wheels. Works continuously without stopping for the welding operation.
