Abstract

Each rotor has one or more knives pivoting on it on vertical axes. Under the effect of centrifugal force knife (5) swings outwards until it strikes a stop (25) on the rotor, and the centre of gravity (Z) of the knife lies, when seen in the direction of rotation, behind the radial plane passing through the pivot axis (9). If the knife swings in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation, the stop can be arranged to deflect, and it can form part of a leaf spring. The knife can be long enough to strike the rotor hubs on swinging in this direction, or it can itself deflect on hitting the stop.
