Abstract

The component consists of an underlay of compressed wood fibre whose thickness (2) is greater than that of the solid wood covering (1) on it. There are recesses in the sides of the underlay, to accommodate pins (4) also fitting in the recesses of a neighbouring component, allowing a complete floor to be assembled. In a plane parallel to the covering the recesses can be arc-shaped, the pins having arc ends extending through less than 180 deg. The underlay can be of fibre bonded with synthetic resin, and the covering can be of European, American or tropical hardwood.
