Abstract

Recording and reproduction of a video signal on a magnetisable tape transported in the longitudinal direction. A first synchronisation signal is recorded in the longitudinal direction of the tape. The video information is then recorded in tracks at an angle greater than zero degrees with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tape. The synchronisation signal which is produced by an alternating current spans the entire width of the tape. The current can be rectangular pulses which drive the tape into saturation, and have a minimum rise time which is smaller than the ratio of the gap of the synchronisation writing head and the speed of the tape.
