Abstract

The colour video recording system uses a frequency converter to convert the video information signal into two differently poled carriers and then alternately switches between these carriers so that adjacent tracks on the magnetic tape record different carriers. The first carrier has a constant polarity during the second interval of the video information signal whilst the second carrier has its polarity inverted every second interval. The magnetic recording tape is wrapped around the recording head in a helical path and data is recorded on the tape in diagonal strips.
