Abstract

The machine is for use in an automatic sorting system, arranging the letters so that their edges converging on the same corner all come to lie in the same two planes. It has a first conveyor with three augers (1, 2, 3) in which the letters (4)) can stand with the corners concerned at the bottom. At the auger ends are slide plates (5, 6) in each plane over which the letter can travel, and these plates have vertical edges (7) forming obtuse angles with them. A few centimetres lower than these edges is a second conveyor with augers (10, 11, 12) running at the same angular velocity as the first ones but conveying at a faster rate.
