Abstract

1,042,884. Sheet stacking apparatus. BAKER PERKINS Ltd. Oct. 14, 1963 [Oct. 18, 1962], No. 39491/62. Heading B6H. [Also in Division B8] An apparatus for forming a horizontal stack of sheets 21, each supported against the next at an angle to the vertical, comprises a horizontal conveyer 1 having a pair of endless parallel spaced wires or ropes 15 and a receiving endless belt conveyer 8 having its horizontal run lying between the ropes 15 and just below them. The ropes 15 are driven around pulleys 3, 4, 5, 6 by a pulley 2 and the upper runs are supported by further pulleys 16. The belt 8 is driven around pulleys 10, 11, 12, 13 by pulley 9. The conveyer system 8 is displaced to the right of the rope system 15 as seen in Fig. 1. Sheets 23 of basically circular form, delivered in spaced relation to the parallel ropes 15 are centralized thereon by guides 24, and are conveyed to a manually created stack of sheets 21 on the platform 20 of a packing machine 22. As the leading edge of the sheet 23 engages the last sheet in the stack, it slides up the inclined surface until its trailing edge dips below the surface of the ropes 15 and engages the belt 8 which then takes the weight. Air coolers 29 may be provided above or below the line of sheets. According to the relative velocities of the conveyers 1 and 8 or due to stoppages &c., the stack of sheets 21 may either increase in length to operate a switch 30, which causes a diversion of the sheet feed, or decrease in length to operate a switch 31 which stops the conveyer 8. The conveyer 8 may be replaced by a stationary receiving surface, whereupon batches of sheets are stacked and subsequently removed. The two wires or ropes 15 may be replaced by a belt with a pair of supporting ridges or by two discs or by a pair of vibrating rods.
