Abstract

The seal is particularly intended for the sludge door of a filter installation and is of the type having a resilient sealing element (1) in a groove (3) in one of the two corresponding sealing faces (2, 4), the element standing proud of this face (2). The face immediately adjoining the groove is recessed relative to the face (2), the arrangement being such that, when the sealing faces (2, 4) come together, the sealing element is compressed and forced into the recessed spaced. The sealing element may have a rectangular cross-section and be positioned at an angle pointing towards the recess. The recess is preferably provided at the high pressure side of the sealing element.
