Abstract

Esters are prepd. by adding an aq. soln of a hexahydrophthalic acid salt (contg. 40-85 wt.% salt) to more than a stoichiometric amt of a boiling epihalohydrin in the presence of a catalyst, the water and epihalohydrin being distilled off, water sepd from the condensate and the ester isolated. Method is easy and may be operated continuously.
