Abstract

The title autocondensation is carried out in a water-free medium, opt. in the presence of an inert organic solvent and an acid catalyst at 100-150 degrees C, until 0.5-1.5 mole water is sepd. per mole of the phosphonium cpd. and opt. free OH gp. are etherified with a 1-4C alkanol, and opt. salts of the autocondensation products are converted into the corresp. hydroxides. The autocondensation product is then condensed with an amide and/or amine at 10-100 degrees C, pref. in the presence of a water-soluble organic solvent or water, in a weight ratio of 15:1 to 1:1. The product is used for flameproofing textiles (polyamides, natural or artificial cellulosic textiles, polyesters, wool or their mixtures), wood, paper, furs, etc. The flameproofing effect is durable. The treated textiles preserve soft hand.
