Abstract
Prepn. for the prophylaxis of bovine trichophytis is produced by cultivating an immunogenic culture of Trichophyton foviformes on a solid or liquid nutrient medium at 26-28 degrees C for 12-15 days until optimal accumulation of the microconidia of the microorganism, then separating off the biomass, homogenizing the biomass to give a suspension of the individual cells, then separating off the end prod. (e.g. by dilution to a cell concentration of 6-9x 106 cells/ml with a sterile physiological solution or by lyophilization). The prepn. can be used for immunizing calves and adult cattle. It is non-injurious and causes no side-effects. Within about 1 month of immunization the animals have a high degree of immunity against natural and experimental infection with Trichophyton foviformes and this immunity lasts for at least 4 years.
