Abstract

Polyesteramides are prepd. by heating a mixt. of (I) >=1 lactam and/or aminoalkanecarboxylic acid, (II) >=1 lactone, and (III) >=1 polyamides or diamine/dicarboxylic acid salt, opt. in the presence of a catalyst, pref. acid or water at 200 - 275 degrees C at least partly under reduced pressure. The reaction mixt. pref. consists of 5 - 90 mole % I, 5 - 80 mole % II, and 5 - 90 mole % III. I is pref. epsilon-caprolactam, II epsilon-caprolactone, and III polycaprolactam or nylon 66 and/or nylon 66 salt. Used for prodn. of sheets and fibres with good dyeability, thermoplastic adhesives, and as thickening agents e.g. in inks and paints.
