Abstract

1,263,952. Polyamides. E. I. DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO. 15 Aug., 1969 [20 Aug., 1968], No. 40863/69. Heading C3R. Injection mouldable polyamides are prepared by heating the precursor (diacid + diamine, aminoacid or lactam) with 0À0565 to 0À321 mol. per cent of a branching agent based on equivalents of acid in the precursor together with 2 to 3 moles per mole of branching agent of a monocarboxylic acid or monoamine. Specified precursors are those of nylons 6/6, 6/10, 6/12 and 8/6; branching agents bishexamethylene triamine and trimesic acid; and chain terminators acetic and propionic acids and diethyl, dimethyl and ethylmethyl amines. In the example the injection moulding properties of nylon 66 modified according to the invention is compared with the same polymer when one or both modifiers are omitted or the proportions thereof are not as required.
