Abstract

The double roller spreader assembly of a screen printing machine is suspended in a sleigh over the flat stencil and the assembly with its supporting bars is guided absolutely positively. When the sleigh reaches the end of its stroke, the inertia of the spreader propels the suspension arrangement farther in the same direction, causing the spreader assembly to tilt, so that the back roller lifts from the stencil whilst the front one descends upon it. On the return stroke, the roller spreader assembly retains approximately the same attitude until, at the end of the stroke the carriage tilts in the opposite direction and the contact roller is changed again. The pressure of the colour spreading rollers upon the stencil can be controlled independently of the sleigh and the whole mechanism is simple and compact.
