Abstract
1291539 Ink ribbon mechanism SIEMENS AG 15 Sept 1971 [16 Sept 1970] 42994/71 Heading B6F An ink ribbon vibrator 2 mounted on a movable type carriage 1 is actuated by a tension tape 9 fixed at one end to the machine frame 11 and at the other to a cam-actuated bell-crank lever 12. A loop is formed in the tape by a roller 7 mounted on a lever 4 supporting the vibrator, two idler rollers 5 and 6 guiding the tape on each side of roller 7. To provide a variable throw for different colour printing, three modifications are illustrated in Figs. (2, 3 and 4). In (Fig. 2) an electromagnet selectively allows a lever (16) to which the tape 9 is attached to either pivot or not pivot with respect to the bell-crank lever 12 upon which it is pivoted. In Figs. (3 and 4) respectively an electromagnetic or manual latching mechanism alters the position of the fixed end of the tape 9 with respect to the machine frame. In (Fig. 5), instead of a fork vibrator as shown in Fig. 1, spaced leaf-springs (29, 30) guide the ribbon and are pivoted about a horizontal shaft 31. A roller (34) is arranged on the support (32) of the leaf-springs (29, 30), around which roller the tension tape forms a loop, between the idler rollers 5, 6. In this embodiment, the loop is increased in size to cause the ribbon to be raised to the printing position.
