Abstract
Hot gas contg. metallic oxide particles has cold gas mixed with it, before or during its passages over a porous section in a separator vessel, through which cold gas passes to be mixed, such that it is cooled to 800 degrees C. The solids/gas mixture is then passed at 10-100 m sec-1 into centre of a converging section of vessel, the walls being angled at >7 degrees to vertical and wetted by a liquid film. The solids are further wetted in zone below this by liquid introduced by nozzles to form suspension of pigment material which is then separated from gas. Used for separation of metal (esp. Ti, Si, Zr, Fe, Zn, Cr O Al) oxides from gas stream after varpour phase oxidation of chlorides.
