Abstract

Title process comprises first treating the iodine-contg. (mainly HI) products of dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons with an alkali-soda soln., and then subjecting the resulting soln to electrolysis. The soln from the anodic compartment is then subjected to blowing with a mixture of O2 or air with steam to remove elemental iodine, which is returned to the dehydrogenation stage. The remaining iodine-free anodic soln. is combined with the cathodic soln and returned to the alkali treatment of the dehydrogenation products. The process to continuous, iodine is regenerated nearly completely formation of corrosion substances and of the explosive NI3 is avoided.
