Abstract

Electrode potential is measured between (a) a solid conductor and (b) a hollow semipermeable refractory cup with partial oxygen pressure in the contained atmosphere, both immersed in a metal bath. (b) is formed of a ZrO2 disc fused into a SiO2, which is more robust than the prior art ZrO2 tube used. The tube base is pref. covered inside by a layer of Pt or Zr powder to give good thermal contact for the Pt-Rh. Pt thermocouple used.
