Abstract

Ethyl benzene and xylenes are separated from waste gases of reformed naphtha by heating to give separate fractions within a fractionation zone, the top fraction being ethyl benzene and the bottom fraction being o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene are the intermediate fractions, the p-xylene being isolated in the crystalline form. The m-xylene is isomerised and the effluent recycled to the fractionation zone where the p-xylene is again separated from the o-xylene fraction.
