Abstract

Production of oriented film by first extrusion blowing the film under conditions which induce substantially only transverse orientation, and subsequently re-heating and orienting the material without permitting lateral contraction, ie. by stretching between differential speed rollers which are below 2.5, pref. 1 cm, apart. Pref. in the firs stage the material diverges at an angle of 40-70 deg. against a cold air steam to a dia. of 2-4 pref. 2.5-3.5 x the extrusion orifice dia. with a thickness drawdown of 5:1 to 20:1 at a temperature which results in a potential longitudinal reversion of below 10% at 100 deg.C. The subsequent longitudinal stretching has a draw ratio of 1.2:1 to 5:1, pref. 1.2-2.5:1. Production of biaxially oriented film with closely tailored levels of both tension and retraction in either or both directions, esp. plasticized PVC.
