Description

Lock of the steering rod of a motor vehicle Technical field The invention relates to a lock of the steering rod of a motor vehicle, comprising a lock holder that is firmly connectable to the vehicle body and the lock holder is provided with a flange wherein the flange surrounds a sleeve that is adapted for being fixed on the steering rod, the sleeve being provided with a recess into which a locking pin can be inserted, the locking pin is connected by means of a mechanical coupling to a cylinder lock to move the locking pin between the retracted and extended position depending on the rotation of the cylinder lock, the cylinder lock being seated in a bushing that is firmly connectable to the vehicle body.
Prior Art A number of well-known devices are used to protect motor vehicles from theft the common goal of which is to block one of the structural assemblies of the vehicle to prevent unauthorized use of the vehicle.
Regardless of the rapid development of electronic systems, mechanical security devices are still used.
A common feature of the most widespread group of mechanical security devices is that they block the movement of a selected part or structural assembly of the motor vehicle by extending a locking pin.
The best-known ones are locks of the gear shifting mechanism that lock the gear shift lever in one position by turning of a key in a cylinder lock.
However, locks of the gear shifting mechanism cannot be used in the continuously growing group of modern cars where the mechanical coupling between the gear shift lever and the gearbox has been replaced with electronic transmission.
In these cars, the steering rod can be locked instead of the gear shifting mechanism.
A known steering rod lock comprises a holder for fixing the lock to the car body.
The holder is provided with a flange that surrounds a sleeve that is firmly attached to the steering rod.
A bushing where a cylinder lock is seated that moves the locking pin by means of a mechanical coupling is also attached to the car body.
The extended locking pin protrudes into an opening in the sleeve on the steering rod, thus locking the steering rod.
Since the bushing with the cylinder lock must be fixed within the driver's reach, the installation of the lock of the steering rod is associated with a problem concerning mechanical interconnection of the cylinder lock with the locking pin because both the engine compartment and the space under the dashboard of a modern car is filled with a number of components.
Knee airbags under the dashboard can be mentioned as an example.
The goal of the invention is to propose such a solution that would make it possible to use one type of a steering rod lock for different car models that have a different arrangement of individual structural assemblies.
Disclosure of invention The above-mentioned goal is achieved with a lock of the steering rod of a motor vehicle, comprising a lock holder that is firmly connectable to the vehicle body and the lock holder is provided with a flange wherein the flange surrounds a sleeve that is adapted for being fixed on the steering rod, the sleeve being provided with a recess into which a locking pin can be inserted, the locking pin is connected by means of a mechanical coupling to a cylinder lock to move the locking pin between the retracted and extended position depending on the rotation of the cylinder lock, the cylinder lock being seated in a bushing that is firmly connectable to the vehicle body, according to the invention the principle of which is that the mechanical coupling between the cylinder lock and the locking pin is provided by a flexible Bowden cable.
An advantage of the steering rod lock according to this invention is that it can be used for different types of cars with a different structure.
To prevent the possibility of starting the engine and subsequently driving the car with the steering rod locked, the cylinder lock is mechanically connected to a microswitch to interrupt the electric circuit of the starter in the locked position of the lock. Brief description of drawings Fig. 1 shows a steering rod provided with the lock according to the invention. Fig. 2 only shows the lock itself. Fig. 3 shows a detail of the flange with the sleeve and a part of the Bowden cable and Fig. 4 shows a detail of seating of the cylinder lock in the bushing. Description of preferred embodiments The lock of the steering rod 1 of a motor vehicle according to Fig. 1 to 4 comprises a lock holder 2 with a firmly attached flange 3. The lock holder 2 is attached to the car body with breakaway bolts. A sleeve 4 is applied onto the steering rod 1 in the place of the flange 3 so that the flange 3 can surround the sleeve 4. The flange 3 is protected from turning with a lock screw 10 (see Fig. 3). A bushing 8 where a cylinder lock 6 is seated is attached to the car body with breakaway bolts within the driver's reach. A rotary movement of the cylinder lock 6 is converted by means of a well-known mechanism 11 to a linear movement of the flexible Bowden cable 7 at the end of which a locking pin 5 is arranged that passes through the flange 3 and in the extended position reaches into the recess in the sleeve 4 to lock the steering rod
1. Thus, the flexible Bowden cable 7 forms the mechanical coupling between the cylinder lock 6 and the locking pin 5.
The cylinder lock 6 is mechanically connected to a microswitch 9 to interrupt the electric circuit of the starter in the locked position of the lock. During locking, the key is inserted into the cylinder lock 6, the key is turned and the rotary movement of the cylinder lock 6 is transferred to a linear movement of the Bowden cable 7 using the mechanism 11. The locking pin 5 at the end of the Bowden cable 7 is inserted into the recess in the sleeve 4, locking the steering rod
1. Naturally, before the locking, the steering wheel must be rotated to the required position so that the axis of the recess in the sleeve 4 can be aligned with the axis of the locking pin 5. Turning the cylinder lock 6 to the locked position at the same time activates the microswitch 9 that will interrupt the electric circuit of the starter to prevent the engine from being started and the vehicle from moving with the steering rod 1 locked. Unlocking is done in an analogous way.
