A roof and a building
The present invention relates to a roof for a building, including a gutter section made of extruded aluminium and comprising a hollow core.
Such a roof is known from greenhouses. In practice it is often desired to build a separate warehouse, a workshop or the like, next to the greenhouse which has a similar roof structure as the greenhouse, but which does not require glass 10 panes.
The present invention aims to provide a roof which is suitable for such a building.
For this purpose the roof according to the invention comprises at least two insulation panels mounted to the gutter 15 section and extending at opposite sides of the gutter section and inclined upwardly in a direction away from the gutter section, wherein a cover is mounted on both panels at the gutter section so as to cover opposite edges of the panels.
An advantage of the roof according to the invention 20 is that a similar gutter section as used in a greenhouse can be applied whereas the insulation panels provide an insulated roof. Furthermore, the gutter section provides a structural support for the insulation panels, on the one hand, and a drainage means, on the other hand. Regarding the drainage means, the gutter section may discharge rainwater which might leak towards the gutter section between the cover and the insulation panels, and condensate that flows from lower sides of the insulation panels towards the gutter section.
The cover does not only prevent rainwater from directly flowing between the insulation panels at the gutter section but also seals a space between the insulation panels at the gutter section, if such a space is present. This is advantageous in terms of insulation characteristics.
The insulation panels may be sandwich panels.
Each of the sandwich panels may comprise a foam between rigid sheets, such as metal sheets. The rigid sheets provide the opportunity to easily fasten the panels to the gutter section, for example by applying self-tapping screws into the sheets.
The thickness of each of the panels may be larger than half of the height of the gutter section.
In a particular embodiment the cover is fixed to the gutter section through a screw which extends through the cover and a space between the panels, and which is screwed in the gutter section.
Opposite side walls of the panels at the gutter section may be non-perpendicular with respect to respective planes of the panels in which the panels extend.
Preferably, the opposite side walls extend substantially parallel to each other, since this provides the opportunity to minimize a space between the panels, hence maximizing insulation properties.
The invention is also related to a building including a roof as described hereinbefore, wherein the gutter section has a drainage gradient in its longitudinal direction towards a hollow column which supports the gutter section, wherein at the column a spout is mounted between opposite edges of the panels, which spout extends through the gutter section so as to guide rainwater from the roof to the inner side of the column. In this embodiment the hollow column has two functions: it supports the gutter section and it drains the water from the roof. The spout may be a separate unit next to the cover, but is may also be integral with the cover.
The invention will hereafter be elucidated with reference to the schematic drawings showing an embodiment of the invention by way of example.
Fig. 1 is a side view of a part of an embodiment of a roof according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view of a part of the roof according to Fig. 1, which is indicated by II in Fig. 1 .
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a part of the roof at a front side thereof.
Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of the part of the roof as shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 1 shows a part of an embodiment of a roof 1 of a building. The building is typically located adjacent to a greenhouse and is intended as a workshop or as a storage, for example. It comprises a similar structure as the greenhouse, except the presence of glass panes. The roof 1 is provided with insulation panels 2 which are mounted to a gutter section
3. The gutter section 3 is made of extruded aluminium and comprises a hollow core 4. Fig. 2 shows the gutter section 3 in more detail.
The insulation panels 2 are sandwich panels which comprise a foam between metal sheets, but alternative panels are conceivable. Fig. 2 shows that opposite side walls of the insulation panels 2 at the gutter section 3 extend substantially parallel to each other in order to locate them close to each other, hence optimizing insulation properties.
The gutter section 3 is provided with panel receiving recesses 5 in which portions of the respective insulation panels 2 are received. Two insulation panels 2 at the gutter section 3 form a V-shape: they extend at opposite sides of the gutter section 3 and are inclined upwardly in a direction away from the gutter section 3. Fig. 2 shows that a cover 6 is fixed to the insulation panels 2 and the gutter section 3. The cover 6 seals a space 7 between the neighbouring insulation panels 2 at the gutter section 3. The cover 6 is fixed to the gutter section 3 through a screw 8 which extends through the cover 6 and the space 7 between the panels 2 and is screwed in the gutter section 3.
Fig. 2 shows that the thickness of an insulation panel 2 is larger than half of the height of the gutter section 3 and even larger than the entire height of the gutter section 3.
The space 7 and the hollow core 4 communicate via through-holes (not shown) in the gutter section 3 in order to discharge any water leakage between the cover 6 and the panels
2. Furthermore, the gutter section 3 is provided with parallel slots 9 below the respective panels 2 for gathering condensate from lower sides of the respective panels 2. The slots 9 may communicate with the hollow core 4 via through-holes for discharging condensate. The space 7 may be partly or entirely filled with insulating material such as a foam.
Since the cover 6 basically prevents rainwater from directly flowing into the space 7 the gutter section 3 has a drainage gradient in its longitudinal direction. Consequently, rainwater flows towards a front side of the roof 1 and collects at an end portion of the gutter section 3, which end portion is shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Fig. 3 shows that the gutter section 3 rests on a beam 10, whereas the beam 10 is supported by a hollow column 11. The gutter section 3 is closed at its end.
Figs. 3 and 4 show that at the column 11 the cover 6 is replaced by a spout 12 for draining rainwater from the roof
1. The spout 12 extends through the space 7 and through through-holes at an upper wall and a lower wall of the gutter section 3, respectively. A tapered pipe 13 is fixed to the lower wall of the gutter section 3 and protrudes into the column 11. Arrows in Fig. 4 illustrate the path along which rainwater flows from the roof 1 through the spout 12, the pipe and the column 11. It is noted that condensate flowing through the inner side of the gutter section 3 also drains through a through-hole in the lower wall of the gutter section 5 3 at the column 11.
The invention is not limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings and described hereinbefore, which may be varied in different manners within the scope of the claims and their technical equivalents.
