Description
Sheet of toilet paper and a dispenser therefore BACKGROUND
The invention relates to an assembly of a sheet of toilet paper and a dispenser for the toilet paper. The invention relates in particular to such assembly to be applied in public sanitary facilities.
In public sanitary facilities, such as a public toilet building along a highway or in an urban area, toilet paper is contained in robust dispensers that withstand vandalism. The toilet paper is stored on a large roll or stack for long autonomous use. In order to prevent that the entire stock of toilet paper is taken off by one user or vandal, the dispenser may be provided with mechanisms that limit the amount of sheets that are dispatched at once. However, these mechanisms can hardly encounter vandalism.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a robust assembly of a sheet of toilet paper and a dispenser therefore that limit the amount of sheets to be dispatched at once.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
According to a first aspect, the invention provides an assembly of a sheet of toilet paper and a dispenser for the toilet paper, wherein the sheet of toilet paper comprises a rolled or stacked stock section and an end section extending from the stock section, wherein the sheet of toilet paper is provided with a series of brake holes that are spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant distance in the longitudinal direction of the sheet of toilet paper, and wherein the dispenser comprises a stock holder containing the stock section, a dispensing section from which the end section of the sheet of toilet paper is dispatched, and a projecting brake body at the dispensing section that is positioned to enter into the brake hole in the passing toilet paper.
In the assembly according to the invention the amount of sheets of toilet paper that can be dispatched at once is limited by the brake body that enters the brake hole. This engagement forms a brake whereby the free end of the end section is ripped off. The next sheet can only be dispatched by passing the brake body with the next part of the end section of the sheet of toilet paper. In this assembly the sheet of toilet paper comprises itself the essential parts for the brake, whereby the dispenser may be very robust in design with the brake body as static component instead of complex mechanisms as known in the art.
In an embodiment the dispensing section comprises a dispensing opening through which the end section is guided, so that the sheet of toilet paper is well positioned with respect to the brake body.
In an embodiment thereof the dispensing opening is bound by the brake body so as to enter directly the next coming brake hole that is guided through the dispensing opening.
In an embodiment the dispensing opening comprises an exit area in front of the brake body and a guiding area that extends along the brake body, wherein the guiding area provides access to the inside of the stock holder. In the case the end section is left behind inside the stock holder, it can be brought downwards and outside again by manipulation via the guiding area that is in front of the stock holder.
In an embodiment the dispenser comprises a front plate in front of the stock holder, which effectively protects the sheet of toilet paper against vandalism.
In an embodiment thereof the front plate covers at least a part of the end section of the sheet of toilet paper, so that the front plate guides the end section to the dispensing section.
In a compact embodiment the front plate is provided with the brake body, wherein the brake body preferably comprises a brake pin or brake lip that forms part of the front plate.
In an embodiment the dispenser is destined to be mounted to a vertical wall, wherein in the mounted condition the front plate extends parallel to the vertical wall and the brake body projects downwards. In this manner the brake body is gently slid over the top side of the sheet of toilet paper when it is withdrawn with a downward directional component.
In an embodiment the brake body is oriented obliquely with respect to the main plane of the front plate and directed inwards into the dispensing opening, so that it hooks into the next brake hole when the sheet of toilet paper is withdrawn with a downward directional component.
In an embodiment the stock holder comprises a bottom that supports the stock section of the toilet paper, wherein in the direction parallel to the front plate the distal end of the brake body extends below the bottom of the stock holder. In this manner it is ensured that the sheet of toilet paper has to make a change in direction when dispatched, which assures that the brake body enters the next brake hole.
In an embodiment the sheet of toilet paper has a constant width and the brake holes have a width that is at least 10% of the width of the sheet of toilet paper. This is substantially larger than the perforations that may form rip off lines as known in the art as such.
In an embodiment the brake holes are positioned in the middle of the width of the sheet of toilet paper, wherein over that width the brake hole forms the sole hole in the sheet of toilet paper.
In an embodiment the sheet of toilet paper is provided with small perforations that form rip off lines or folding lines that extend transversely over the entire width of the strip of toilet paper, wherein the sheet of toilet paper comprises one brake hole per two or more subsequent rip off lines.
In an embodiment the repetitive constant distance between the brake holes is at least twice the width of the sheet of toilet paper.
In an embodiment the repetitive constant distance between the brake holes is between 4 and 10 times the width of the sheet of toilet paper.
In an embodiment the sheet of toilet paper comprises a rolled stock section forming one continuous roll.
In an embodiment the sheet of toilet paper comprises a stacked stock section that is folded in a zigzag configuration.
According to a second aspect, the invention provides a sheet of toilet paper comprising a rolled or stacked stock section and an end section extending from the stock section, wherein the sheet of toilet paper is provided with a series of brake holes to receive a brake body of a dispenser for the sheet of toilet paper, wherein the brake holes are spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant distance in the longitudinal direction of the sheet of toilet paper.
The sheet of toilet paper has the advantages as already described here before.
The various aspects and features described and shown in the specification can be applied, individually, wherever possible. These individual aspects, in particular the aspects and features described in the attached dependent claims, can be made subject of divisional patent applications .

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Figure 1 shows one continuous strip of soft tissue paper or toilet paper 1 according to a first embodiment of the invention. The strip of toilet paper 1 is wrapped around a paperboard core 2 to form a roll 3, wherein the end section 4 is pending downwards from the roll 3 to be ripped off. The strip of toilet paper 1 can be one-, two- or three-ply, or even thicker, meaning that it is either a single sheet or multiple sheets placed back-to-back to make it thicker, softer, stronger and more absorbent. The strip of toilet paper 1 has a width W.
The strip of toilet paper 1 is provided with small perforations that form folding lines or rip off lines 6 that extend transversely over the entire width W of the strip of toilet paper 1. The rip off lines 6 are evenly spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant distance A along the entire length of the strip of toilet paper 1, so that between two consecutive rip off lines 6 one tissue 7 is defined as known per se. The strip of toilet paper 1 furthermore comprises brake holes 8 for purposes that are described hereafter. The brake holes 8 are evenly spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant intermediate distance B. In the transverse direction the brake holes 8 are centered in the middle of the strip of toilet paper 1. In this example the brake holes 8 have a rectangular contour, having a length L and a width K. The leading edge or front edge of the brake hole 8 may be spaced apart from the closest rip off line 6 over a distance C.
Figure 2 shows one continuous strip of soft tissue paper or toilet paper 1 according to a second embodiment of the invention. The strip of toilet paper 101 is folded in a zigzag to form a continuous stack 103, wherein the end section 104 is pending downwards from the stack 103 to be ripped off. The strip of toilet paper 101 can be one-, two-or three-ply, or even thicker, meaning that it is either a single sheet or multiple sheets placed back-to-back to make it thicker, softer, stronger and more absorbent. The strip of toilet paper 101 has a width W.
The strip of toilet paper 101 is provided with small perforations that form both the folding lines and rip off lines 106 that extend transversely over the entire width of the strip of toilet paper 101. The rip off lines 106 are evenly spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant distance A along the entire length of the strip of toilet paper 101, so that between two consecutive rip off lines 106 one tissue 107 is defined. The strip of toilet paper 101 furthermore comprises brake holes 108 for purposes that are described hereafter. The brake holes 108 that are evenly spaced apart from each other over a repetitive constant intermediate distance B. In the transverse direction the brake holes 108 are centered in the middle of the strip of toilet paper 108. In this example the brake holes 108 have a rectangular contour, having a length L and a width K. The leading edge or front edge of the brake hole 108 may be spaced apart from the closest rip off line 106 over a distance C.
For both strips of toilet paper 1, 101 the width K of the brake holes 8 is preferably between 10% and 99% of the width W of the strip of toilet paper 1, 101, and the length L of the brake holes 8 is preferably between 0% and 60% of the width W of the strip of toilet paper 1, 101. In these illustrative and non-limiting examples the strip of toilet paper 1 has a width W of 10 centimeter, and the brake holes 8 have a width K and a length L of both 5 centimeter. The intermediate distances A between the rip off lines 6, 106 is 20 centimeter and the intermediate distances B between the brake holes 8, 108 is 40-80 centimeter, preferably about 60 centimeter, so that one brake hole 6, 106 is present per two, three or four rip off lines 6, 106. Alternatively defined, one break hole 6, 106 is present over a repetitive constant intermediate distance B that is between 4 and 10 times the width W of the sheet of toilet paper 1, 101. The distance C is between 0% and 60% of the width W, in this example 5 centimeter.
Figures 3A-3C show a toilet paper dispenser 301 according to a first embodiment of the invention, that is adapted to contain the strip of toilet paper 1 according to the first embodiment. The toilet paper dispenser 301 is designed to withstand vandalism so as to be installed in the public space. The toilet paper dispenser 301 can be installed adjacent to a toilet in a public toilet building along a highway or in an urban area.
The toilet paper dispenser 301 comprises a rigid front panel 302 to be mounted against or even flush with a wall of the toilet house, and a stock holder 320 behind the front panel 302 to contain the roll 3 of the strip of toilet paper 1. The flat or flush mounting prevents that the dispenser 301 is kicked off the wall by vandals.
The front panel 302 comprises a dispensing opening 303 that is bounded by a straight horizontal bottom edge 304 and two straight vertical side edge having about the same length. The front plate 302 furthermore comprises a holding lip 306 pending downward from the upper part in the main plane of the front plate 302, and a smaller brake lip 308 pending downward and obliquely inwards with respect to the vertical holding lip 306. In this manner the dispensing opening 303 comprises a horizontally extending exit area 311 below the holding lip 306 and two vertically extending guiding areas 312.
The stock holder 320 comprises two vertical side walls 321, a first vertical back wall 322 and a first horizontal bottom wall 323, wherein the first bottom wall 323 is horizontally recessed with respect to the holding lip 306. The first bottom wall 323 extends in vertical direction above the end of the holding lip 306 and the brake lip 308 extends entirely below the first bottom wall 322. The stock holder 320 furthermore comprises a second back wall 324 closer to the front plate 302 and a second bottom wall 325 behind the bottom edge 304.
As best shown in figure 3B, the strip of toilet paper 1 is inserted from above in the stock holder 320 of the dispenser 301, wherein the unrolled end section 4 rests against the holding lip 306 and is guided through the exit area 311 of the dispensing opening 303. When a user pulls on the free hanging end of the end section 4, the strip of toilet paper 1 rolls off until the brake lip 308 enters the next coming brake hole 8 as is shown. The brake lip 308 enters the brake hole 8 about transversely with respect to the pulling direction P, whereby a form shaped lock is formed that is strong enough to succumb the rip off line 6 that was just released. This is shown in figure 2C. In this manner the user obtains a piece of toilet paper having only two tissues 7 that are still connected to each other along the entire rip off line 6 there between.
When another such piece of the strip of toilet paper 1 is dispensed, a user can start by pulling on the remaining end that projects from the exit area 311 in downward direction Q to guide the strip of toilet paper 1 below the brake lip 308. By subsequently pulling in the pulling direction P as described here before the next two tissues are dispatched. In the exceptional case that the strip of toilet paper 1 does not project freely from the exit area 311, the end section 4 thereof is manually guided to the exit area 311 via the guiding areas 312 of the dispensing opening 303. In all cases the cooperation between the brake lip 308 and the brake holes 8 ensures that only one piece of toilet paper can be obtained having about the same length as the intermediate distances A between the brake holes 8.
Figures 4A-4C show a toilet paper dispenser 401 according to a second embodiment of the invention, that is adapted to contain the strip of toilet paper 101 according to the second embodiment. The toilet paper dispenser 401 is designed to withstand vandalism.
The toilet paper dispenser 401 comprises a rigid front panel 402 to be mounted against or even flush with a wall of the toilet house, and a stock holder 420 behind the front panel 402 to contain the zigzag stack 103 of the strip of toilet paper 1. The flat or flush mounting prevents damage by vandalism.
The front panel 4 02 bounds the upper side of a dispensing opening 403 and comprises a holding lip 406 pending downward from the upper part in the main plane of the front plate 402, and a smaller brake lip 308 pending downward and with its end obliquely inwards with respect to the vertical holding lip 406, ending with an end tip 405 having a smooth bottom surface. In this manner the dispensing opening 403 comprises a horizontally extending exit area 411 below the holding lip 406 and two adjacent guiding areas 412. The front plate furthermore comprises multiple view holes 407 to look into the paper dispenser 401.
The stock holder 420 comprises two vertical side walls 421, a first vertical back wall 422 and a first horizontal bottom wall 423, wherein the first bottom wall 423 is horizontally recessed with respect to the holding lip 406. The first bottom wall 423 extends in vertical direction below the end of the holding lip 406 and the brake lip 408 extends entirely below the first bottom wall 422. The stock holder 420 furthermore comprises a second back wall 324 closer to the front plate 402 and a second bottom wall 425 that bounds the lower side of the dispensing opening 403.
As best shown in figure 4B, the strip of toilet paper 101 is inserted from above in the stock holder 420 of the dispenser 301, wherein the unstacked end section 104 is guided through the exit area 411 of the dispensing opening 403. When a user pulls on the free hanging end of the end section 104, the strip of toilet paper 101 is unstacked until the brake lip 408 enters the next coming brake hole 108. The brake lip 408 enters the brake hole 108 about transversely with respect to the pulling direction P, whereby a form shaped lock is formed that is strong enough to succumb the rip off line 106 that was just released. In this manner the user obtains a piece of toilet paper having only two tissues 107 that are still connected to each other along the entire rip off line 106.
When another such piece of the strip of toilet paper 101 is dispensed, a user can start by pulling on the remaining end that projects from the exit area 311 in downward direction Q to guide the strip of toilet paper 1 below the brake lip 408. By subsequently pulling in the pulling direction P as described here before the next two tissues are dispatched. In the exceptional case that the strip of toilet paper 101 does not project freely from the exit area 411, the end section 104 thereof is manually guided to the exit area 311 via the guiding areas 412. In all cases the cooperation between the brake lip 408 and the brake holes 108 ensures that only one piece of toilet paper can be obtained having about the same length as the intermediate distances A between the brake holes 108.
Figures 5A and 5B show a toilet paper dispenser 501 according to a third embodiment of the invention, that is adapted to contain the strip of toilet paper 1 according to the first embodiment.
The toilet paper dispenser 501 comprises a stock holder 520 and a front plate 502 that is hingably attached to the stock holder to cover the upper side of the roll 3. The stock holder 520 comprises a shackle 521 that carries the paperboard core 2. The dispenser furthermore comprises a holding lip 506 with a smaller brake lip 508 at the end pending downward from and hingably connected to the stock holder 520. When a user pulls in downward direction P on the fee hanging end of the end section 4 of the sheet of toilet paper 1, it rolls of until the brake lip 508 enters the next coming brake hole 8. The brake lip 508 enters the brake hole 8 about transversely with respect to the pulling direction P, whereby a form shaped lock is formed that is strong enough to succumb the rip off line 6 that just passed the brake lip 508. In this manner the user obtains a piece of toilet paper having only two tissues 7 that are still connected to each other along the entire rip off line 6 there between. The remaining end of the end section 4 falls downwards in direction R to form the next piece of toilet paper to be dispensed. In order to release the brake the user has to pull up the brake lip 508 gently upwards in direction Q.
It is to be understood that the above description is included to illustrate the operation of the preferred embodiments and is not meant to limit the scope of the invention. From the above discussion, many variations will be apparent to one skilled in the art that would yet be encompassed by the spirit and scope of the present invention.
