Description
Uitlaatgas systeem voor een dieselmotor BESCHRIJVING: 5Exhaust gas system for a diesel engine DESCRIPTION: 5
The invention relates to an exhaust gas system for a diesel engine comprising an inlet and an outlet and a filter 10 present therebetween provided with a number of adjacent channels with porous walls, wherein adjacent channels are alternately closed by an end plug at the inlet end and outlet end whereby the exhaust gas is forced to flow through the walls, the walls being at least partially coated with a first coating.
Such an exhaust gas system is generally known in the form of a diesel particle filter (DPF) whose walls of the channels are coated with a selective catalytic reduction catalyst (SCR catalyst). The end plugs are usually applied here before the walls have been coated.
After the exhaust gas has flowed through the DPF with the SCR catalyst on top, it is desirable to allow the filtered exhaust gas to flow past an ammonia oxidation catalyst (AMOX catalyst).
It is an object of the invention to provide an exhaust gas system of the type described in the preamble which is advantageously provided with an AMOX catalyst. To this end, the exhaust gas system according to the invention is characterized in that from the outlet end to a distance therefrom the walls are coated with a second coating, the end plugs in the outlet ends having a length at least equal to the said distance over which the walls with the second coating are coated. If the AMOX catalyst is not coated at the location of the end plugs on the walls of the channels, the exhaust gas will flow partly through the wall parts coated with the AMOX catalyst 2 and partly through the wall parts coated with SCR catalyst. By now covering one side of the parts of the walls on which the AMOX catalyst coating is present, the exhaust gas cannot but flow through the parts of the walls coated with SCR catalyst first. The exhaust gas can then only flow past the parts of the walls provided with the AMOX catalyst coating. By sealing off the parts of the walls provided with the AMOX catalyst coating by means of the end plugs, no additional sealing means are required. The end plugs in the outlet end only have to be made longer than normal.

Figure 2 shows an enlarged detail of the interior of the filter 9. The walls 13 are coated with a SCR coating 25 from the inlet end 19 over a first distance 23 and coated with an AMOX catalyst coating 29 from the outlet end 21 over a second distance 27. The end plugs 17 in the outlet ends 3 have a length that is at least at least is equal to the said second distance 27 over which the walls are coated with the AMOX catalyst coating 29. As a result, one side of the parts of the walls on which the AMOX catalyst coating is present is covered and the exhaust gas cannot but flow through the parts of the walls 13 coated with SCR catalyst coating 25. The exhaust gas can then only flow past the parts of the walls 13 provided with the AMOX catalyst coating 29.
Although in the foregoing the invention has been elucidated with reference to the drawings, it should be noted that the invention is by no means limited to the embodiment shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiment shown in the drawings within the scope defined by the claims.
