Description

Dispensing device for soap or detergent
The invention relates to a dispensing device for dispensing a liquid soluble material.
5 A known dispensing device is disclosed in the American patent US377982. This patent relates to a dispensing device including a first housing part having an inlet opening, which is connectable to a water tap, and an outlet opening; a second housing part connected to the first housing part and having an inlet in communication with the outlet opening of the first housing part and an outlet opening. Inside the second 10 housing part an inner cylindrical housing is fitted, such that an inner and an outer chamber are provided within the second housing part. The outer chamber is provided with a support member for supporting a block of soap or detergent. In an open position water from the tap will flow through the device and will enter the outer chamber, whereby the soap is dissolved in the water and soapy water will come out of the outlet 15 of the second chamber. In this open position, the inner chamber is closed. When clear water is required, the outer chamber can be closed, such that the water will not enter and the soap will not be dissolved. The water will flow only through the inner chamber.
A disadvantage of the prior art is that closing the outer chamber with the soap requires two steps. First the outer chamber of the second housing part needs to be 20 closed and second the inner chamber of the second housing part needs to be opened. This is a nuisance, especially when dirty hands need to be washed quickly.
An aim of the invention is to provide a dispensing device with a liquid soluble material containing chamber that can be closed and opened easily, in such a way that in the open position a fluid mixed with the liquid soluble material flows through the outlet 25 opening and in closed position a clear fluid flows through the outlet opening.
This is achieved by providing a dispensing device for dispensing a liquid soluble material, comprising a first housing part having an inlet opening, arranged for connection to a liquid supply, and an outlet opening; a second housing part comprising receiving means for receiving the first housing part and having a first and second 30 chamber connected to the receiving means, each chamber having an opening in communication with the first housing part, as well as at least one support member for supporting the liquid soluble material, whereby the receiving means are provided with an outlet opening aligned with respect to the outlet opening of the first housing part, 2 whereby the outlet opening of the receiving means is provided with a flow resistance means to increase the pressure in the first housing part, and whereby the first housing part extending into the receiving means having side walls, is provided with one opening in communication with one of the chambers in the second housing part, whereby in an 5 open position the opening of the first housing part is aligned with respect to the opening of one of the first and second chambers and in a closed position the opening of the first housing part is turned to the side walls of the receiving means.
In such a way, the open and closed positions are each achieved in one step. Only the opening of the first housing part needs to be turned to face the side walls of the 10 receiving means and a clear fluid, such as water, will flow from the outlet opening.
In an embodiment the first housing part comprises a tube extending between the inlet opening and the outlet opening as well as a cover for covering the second housing part. The tube is connected to the cover and is received in the receiving means of the second housing part. At the bottom end of the tube the flow resistance of the second 15 housing is provided. An example of such a flow resistance is an anti-splash device, such as an aerator.
In another embodiment the opening of the receiving means has at least the same dimensions as the opening of the first housing part. In this way water can flow freely from the first housing part into one of the chambers that is in communication with the 20 extending tube and dissolve the liquid soluble material.
In a further embodiment the opening of the first housing part is provided in the extending tube. The opening in the tube extends along the circumference of the tube, opening only a segment of the tube, for example one tenth to one third of the circumference of the tube, preferably one quarter of the circumference of the tube. In 25 such a way, the remainder of the circumference of the tube is closed. This closed section is turned to the opening of the chamber for closure, thereby preventing water to flow into the chamber and to exit the chamber, resulting in clear water coming out of the outlet opening of the dispensing device.
In a further embodiment the opening in the tube extends in a longitudinal 30 direction of the tube, whereby the longitudinal dimension of the opening is smaller than that dimension of the extending tube, i.e. the circumference of the tube is continuous at the bottom and the top. The opening in the extending tube is positioned symmetrically with respect to the horizontal middle of the extending tube. This prevents water seeping 3 in from the bottom and top of the receiving means into the chamber with the liquid soluble material.
In order to connect the first and second housing parts, several measures are possible. In an embodiment, the cover of the first housing part is provided with side 5 flanges, extending downwardly and engaging with corresponding openings in the second housing part. Because of the openings, the flanges can be pushed inward and the second housing part is released and can be removed. In this way, the chambers of the second housing part can be refilled when the liquid soluble material is completely removed.
10 The liquid soluble material can be provided in the chambers as a block of solid material. An alternative is the use of a liquid in a container with a shape corresponding to the shape of the chamber. The liquid soluble material can be either a soap or a detergent.
In order to see that the chambers need refilling, the second housing part can be 15 provided with see-through material in openings towards the chambers.
The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to a few drawings in which illustrative embodiments of the invention are shown. It will be appreciated by the person skilled in the art that other alternative and equivalent embodiments of the invention can be conceived and reduced to practice without 20 departing from the true spirit of the invention, the scope of the invention being limited only by the appended claims.

Description of embodiments 5 Figure 1 shows a schematic drawing of an exploded view of one embodiment according to the invention of a dispensing device for dispensing a liquid soluble material. The dispensing device is referred to as numeral 1. The device comprises a first housing part 2 and a second housing part 3, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, respectively.
10 Figure 2 shows a schematic drawing in perspective of the first housing part 2.
The first housing part 2 comprises a cover 4, an extending tube 5 with an opening 6 and connection means 7 to connect the first housing part to a water tap (not shown). The extending tube is provided with an outlet opening 22 and an inlet opening 23, which is aligned with the connection means 7 for allowing water to flow through the tube 5. The 15 cover 4 is provided with flanges 8, 9 extending downwardly. In this embodiment the flanges 8, 9 are provided with protrusions 10, 11 to engage with openings 12, 13 of the second housing part 3.
Figure 3 shows a schematic drawing in perspective of the second housing part 3. The second housing part is viewed sideways from the top, in such a way that part of the 20 outline of the second housing part 3 is observable in addition to the interior of the second housing part 3. The second housing part 3 comprises receiving means 14 for the extending tube 5 of the first housing part 2 and two chambers 15, 16. The receiving means have side walls 17, 18, openings 19, 20, which are also the openings of the chambers 15, 16, and an inlet opening 27 and an outlet opening 26. At the bottom of 25 the receiving means 14 a flow resistance 21 is provided in the outlet opening 26. In this embodiment an aerator is used. The flow resistance 21 is aligned with the outlet opening 22 of the extending tube 5 of the first housing part 2.
The chambers 15, 16 are both provided with liquid soluble material 24 supported on supporting means 25, for instance soap or detergent. The liquid soluble 30 material can be provided as blocks of solid material, but alternatively it can be a liquid provided in containers that fit the chambers 15, 16.
The dispensing device will only dispense the soap as a mixture of soap and water, i.e. soapy water, when the opening 6 of the extending tube 5 is aligned with the 5 opening 19, 20 of one of the chambers 15, 16. The flow resistance 21 at the bottom of the second housing part 3 allows pressure build up in such a way that water flowing through the chamber can dissolve the soap 24 in the respective chamber 15, 16.
When the opening 6 of the extending tube 5 is turned towards one of the side 5 walls 17, 18 of the receiving means 14, clear water will flow out of the outlet opening 22. The connection for flow of water between the extending tube 5 and the chamber 15, 16 is closed. The water cannot reach the soap anymore.
Opening and closing the opening 6 of the extending tube 5 is done by rotating the device in such a way that the opening 6 is either aligned with the opening 19, 20 of one 10 of the respective chambers 15, 16 or turned towards the side walls 17,18. Therefore, the opening 6 of the tube 5 cannot be larger than a segment of the circumference of the tube 5.
Figures 4, 5 and 6 show schematic drawings of a dispensing device for dispensing a liquid soluble material in a second embodiment.
15 In Figures 4, 5, 6 entities with the same reference number as shown in the preceding figures refer to corresponding entities.
In the embodiment shown in figures 4, 5, 6, the cover 4 is provided with a resilient clip 30 extending downwardly. The clip 30 is provided on its surface with protrusions 31 facing towards an outer side area of the second housing part 3. The side 20 area of the second housing part 3 may be provided with recesses (not shown) to engage with the clip’s protrusions 31.
In a preferred embodiment, the cover 4 comprises at its circumference a spigot 32 arranged for strengthening the coupling between the cover 4 and the second housing part 3. The side walls 17, 18 of the receiving means each comprise a joggle 33 for 25 receiving the spigot 32.
It will be apparent to the person skilled in the art that other embodiments of the invention can be conceived and reduced to practice without departing from the true spirit of the invention, the scope of the invention being limited only by the appended claims as finally granted. The description is not intended to limit the invention.
