Description

ELONGATE MEMBER FOR STIRRING IN A CONSUMABLE LIQUID
The present invention relates to an elongate member for stirring in a consumable liquid, i.e. a beverage.
5 A lot of people drink their coffee with sugar and/or milk. After getting a cup of coffee, sugar can then for instance be taken from a sugar bowl and milk can be taken from a jug. A spoon, i.e. an elongate member, can then be used to stir 10 the coffee to dissolve and/or mix the sugar and/or the milk in the coffee.
However, when in a hurry, the above mentioned procedure is not considered as efficient. It is therefore known to 15 provide the sugar and milk in sachets. The sachets can easily be opened for inserting its contents in the beverage. After stirring with an elongate member, for instance in the form of a plastic stirrer, the beverage is ready for consumption.
20
However, preparing a beverage by mixing a product in it is still not considered as efficient.
It is therefore goal of the present invention, amongst other 25 goals, to provide a more efficient elongate member for stirring in a consumable liquid.
The above goal is met by the present invention, amongst other goals, by an elongate member as defined in the 30 appended claim 1.
Specifically, the above goal, amongst other goals, is met by the present invention by an elongate member arranged for 2 stirring in a consumable liquid, wherein the elongate member is provided with a container holding a liquid miscible component for mixing in the liquid. By providing a liquid miscible component in a container on the elongate member, 5 the component is preferably mixed in the consumable liquid when the elongate member is placed in the liquid, in particular when the elongate member is stirred. A consumer may then take an elongate member according to the invention and by stirring said member in the liquid, for instance a 10 beverage, a consumable component is added to said liquid in one step. The component may for instance dissolve in said liquid or the component may create a suspension.
The elongate member is sized and/or shaped to allow 15 efficient stirring in a conventional container for a liquid, for instance a glass, a bowl or a cup.
The consumable liquid may be in any form, it may for instance be water or any other (hot) beverage such as 20 coffee, soft drink, milk, tea or soup.
The liquid miscible component may be any consumable product which is for instance mixable or soluble in a consumable liquid. The component may be in the liquid state or in the 25 solid state, for instance in the form of a powder.
Preferably the liquid miscible component comprises at least one component chosen from the group of sugar, milk, salt, flavouring agent, medicines, seasoning agent, colouring agent, freeze-dried products and instant products, for 30 instance instant coffee, chocolate, milk or soup. More preferably, the container comprises a plurality of liquid miscible components.
3
The container may for instance comprise a recess provided in the elongate member. It may also be possible that the container comprises an external surface of the elongate member, wherein the component is attached to said elongate 5 member.
Preferably the container comprises a hollow core extending along at least a length of said elongate member, wherein the container is open to at least one surface of the elongate 10 member. This allows easy handling of the elongate member, while the liquid miscible component is allowed to mix in the liquid trough said opening in the surface. More preferably the opening in said surface extends near an end of the elongate member to improve the mixing by stirring. It 15 further allows dosing of the liquid miscible component in the liquid. When according to the consumer's taste enough component is mixed in the liquid, the elongate member may be removed from the liquid and re-introduced with the other end not provided with the container. Even more preferably, the 20 elongate member is substantially tube shaped along at least a length. The hollow core may then form the container. The tube may for instance have a circular or a rectangular cross-section.
25 According to a preferred embodiment the container is open to one of the ends of the elongate member. This allows good mixing when the elongate member is placed in the liquid, while the chance of handling the elongate member on the opening is minimized. When the elongate member is 30 reintroduced in the liquid after dosing as mentioned above, the component is further prevented from leaving said container. In case a tube is used as an elongate member, one 4 end of the tube preferably forms the opening of the container while the other end is closed.
According to a further preferred embodiment the elongate 5 member is manufactured from a material being sufficiently stiff for allowing stirring with said elongate member when the container is emptied. This allows stirring even when the container is empty. Preferably, the degree of filling of the container has little or no influence on the structural 10 integrity of the elongate member. More preferably, the elongate member is manufactured from a plastic.
According to a further preferred embodiment of the elongate member according to the invention the container is moveable 15 between an open position wherein the container is open to its surroundings and a closed position wherein the liquid miscible component is enclosed by said container. This prevents unintentionally emptying of the container. In particular when the liquid miscible component is in a liquid 20 form this is of importance. Closing of the container after opening said container further allows dosing of the liquid miscible component in the liquid. Suitable means for opening and/or closing the container comprise a sliding member, a foil arranged for puncturing or a consumable liquid soluble 25 foil.
Preferably the elongate member is provided with a removable seal for moving the container from the closed to the open position. The seal can be removed by hand for easy opening. 30 Preferably the seal is provided with a protruding lip for easy removal of said seal.
5
It is also possible that the elongate member comprises a first elongate body provided with the container opening to at least one surface of said first body and a second elongate body provided coaxial around said first elongate 5 body, wherein movement between the first and the second elongate bodies moves the container between the open and the closed positions. Opening and closing of the container is hereby easily achieved by moving the first and second bodies with respect to each other.
10
The second body may for instance comprise a window which coincides with the opening in the first body in the open position. By moving the first body with respect to the second body, for instance by rotating about or translating 15 along the longitudinal axes of the bodies, the container is opened and closed. It may also be possible to slide the second body with respect to the first body for exposing the opening of the container to the surroundings.
20 According to a further preferred embodiment at least one end of the elongate member is spoon shaped. This improves the stirring capacities of the elongate member. The handle of the spoon may then for instance be provided with the container. It is however also possible that the container is 25 formed by the spoon shaped end.
A further preferred embodiment of the elongate member according to the invention comprises a plurality of containers, each holding a different liquid miscible 30 component. This improves the efficiency of the elongate member in the form of a stirrer.
6
Preferably the elongate member is provided with two containers extending near the opposite ends of the elongate member. By placing an end in the liquid, the component held in that container is mixed in the liquid. The consumer may 5 then rotate the elongate member to mix in the second component held in the other end in the liquid. More preferably the containers are open to both ends of the elongate member, for instance in the form of a tube. The containers are preferably formed separate from each other.
10 This prevents mixing of the components in the elongate member .
According to a preferred embodiment, one of the containers is moveable between an open and a closed position. This 15 allows dosing of both the components held in the different containers. After the components have been mixed in the liquid to the consumer's taste, the container can be closed and the elongate member can be re-introduced in the liquid with the closed container extending in the liquid. However, 20 preferably each of the containers is separately moveable between an open and a closed position.
The invention further relates to an elongate member arranged for stirring in a consumable liquid, wherein the elongate 25 member is provided with a container arranged for holding a liquid miscible component for mixing in the liquid. The elongate member can be used to hold a liquid miscible component as described above.
30 The present invention is further illustrated by the following Figures, which show a preferred embodiment of the device according to the invention, and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention in any way, wherein: 7
Figure 1 schematically shows the stirrer according to the invention in a beverage; 5 - Figure 2 schematically shows an embodiment of the stirrer in detail;
Figures 3-5 schematically show different embodiments of the stirrer; 10
Figures 6a and 6b schematically show a further embodiment in perspective and in cross-section, respectively; 15 - Figure 7 schematically shows a further embodiment of the stirrer, and;
Figures 8a and 8b show a further embodiment of the stirrer in closed and open position.
20
In figure 1, a beverage is shown in the form of a glass 9 filled with coffee 91. In order to add sugar to the coffee 91, an elongate member in the form of stirrer 1 according to the invention is introduced in the coffee 91.
25
The stirrer 1 is formed as a tube with a hollow core. At one end lb, the tube is closed. At the other end la, the open end la forms a container 5 for holding the liquid miscible component in the form of sugar.
Before introduction of the stirrer 1 in the coffee, the sugar is in a solid state and is held in the container 5 of the stirrer 1. When the stirrer 1, and more particularly the 30 8 end la of the stirrer 1, is introduced in the glass 9, the sugar in the container 5 is contacted with the coffee 91. This dissolves the sugar, such that the sugar is mixed in the liquid of the coffee 91. By stirring the stirrer 1, the 5 mixing effect is increased.
An alternative to the stirrer 1 of figure 1 is shown in figure 2. In this embodiment, the container 5 provided at the end la of the stirrer 1 is closed off by a seal 2. This 10 makes the stirrer 1 suitable for holding a component in the liquid form, for instance in the form of milk. In order to be able to remove the seal 2 easily in a direction indicated with I, a lip 21 is provided.
15 Another embodiment is shown in figure 3, wherein the stirrer I is arranged to hold two components, for instance in the form of sugar and milk, in separate containers 5a and 5b. Each of the containers holding the products is provided with a suitable seal 21 and each of the seals is provided with a 20 lip 21 for easy opening in the directions indicated with I and II.
As is shown in dashed lines in figure 3, a divider 12 is provided in the middle region of the stirrer 1. Each of the 25 containers 5a and 5b is hereby formed by seal 21, inner wall II of the stirrer 1 and the divider 12.
The stirrer 1 shown in figure 4 is provided with a spoonshaped end 3, such that the stirrer 1 as a whole is shaped 30 as a spoon. The handle of the spoon is hereby formed hollow to form a container 5 holding a product to be mixed in the liquid. In this example the container 5 is open to end la and holds powder for making soup. End lb is hereby closed.
9
It may however also be possible that end lb is open, or that both ends are open to form two containers. A divider may then be provided. It may also be possible to provide at 5 least one of the ends with a seal 21 as shown for instance in figures 2 or 3.
In figure 5 the container 5 is formed by the spoon-shaped end 3. On this end 3 is provided a seal 2 for closing said 10 container. When handling the lip 21 provided on the seal 2 in a direction indicated with III, the container 5 is opened and the product held in the container is exposed to its surroundings for mixing.
15 The stirrers 1 as shown in figures 6a, 6b and 7 are provided with a first body 13 and second body 14 which are provided moveable with respect to each other. By this movement, the containers 5a, 5b and 5 can be opened and closed.
20 In the stirrer of figure 6a and 6b, the first body 13 is provided with two containers 5a and 5b, divided by a wall 135. The containers 5a and 5b are in the closed position as shown in figure 6b further enclosed by end piece 134, body 13 and the inner wall of the second body 14. When the first 25 body 13 is moved in a direction indicated with IV, the containers 5a and 5b are opened and the held product is exposed to the surroundings. In figure 6b, the stirrer 1 is shown in its open position. To prevent further movement between the bodies, a stop 13b is provided.
30
In the stirrer of figure 7, the container 5 is opened by rotating the first body 13 with respect to the second body 14 in a direction indicated with V. The container of the 10 first body 13 opens to a surface of the first body 13 with an opening 16. The second body 14 is provided with a corresponding opening 15. By rotating the bodies with respect to each other, the opening 15 and 16 may be placed 5 coinciding, thereby opening the container 5 to its surroundings .
In the stirrer 1 shown in figures 8a and 8b is formed as a strip 17. The container is hereby formed as a sachet 5 10 extending around said strip 17. The sachet 5 is provided with a weakened wall 19, allowing tearing of the sachet 5 in a direction indicated with VI.
When the sachet 5 is torn, piece 51 remains connected to the 15 strip 17, while piece 52 is separated. The contents 8 of the sachet 5 are thus exposed and can be mixed in a beverage.
The present invention is not limited to the embodiment shown, but extends also to other embodiments falling within 20 the scope of the appended claims.
