Method and device for detecting imperfections in glass products.
BESCHRIJVINGDESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a method and a device for detecting imperfections in transparent hot objects, such as glass products, which objects are inspected after they have been formed and placed on a transport device.
In the production process of glass objects such as bottles, jars, optical components and table glass, molten glass (glass gobs) is fed through a power supply unit to a forming machine. There, a desired glass object is formed from a lump of molten glass by pressing and / or blowing. The forming machine can be a so-called IS machine. An IS machine contains a row of individual sections in which one or more glass objects are formed. When the forming machine has shaped the glass articles, they are placed on a conveyor, for example a conveyor, for further treatment. Along the way, on the conveyor belt, the still hot glass objects are inspected for imperfections (imperfections), for example whether they are deformed, contain inclusions or gas bubbles, deviate (too much) from certain parameters or do not meet set standards with regard to certain properties. The detected imperfect objects are then removed.
For inspecting the transparent hot objects, observation means, for example cameras, are used which take images of the objects passing on the conveyor. These images are then processed and analyzed by an image processing unit. On the images taken, certain parts of the object, the so-called inspection zones, are inspected for imperfections. If an imperfection is detected in an inspection zone of an image, the object associated with that image is considered to be imperfect.
An example of conventional methods for detecting imperfections in hot glass objects can be found in US 6049379, in which two cameras with different viewing directions on the side of the transport device take images of the passing objects. These images are then compared with each other. If the difference between the two images is too large, the object is considered imperfect.
The inspection of transparent hot objects to detect imperfections, however, is not without disadvantages, because one assumes a certain position as well as one particular orientation of the object on the transport device. However, in practice, the objects coming from the forming machine are not placed on the transport device in the same position and / or with the same orientation. The objects can be placed slightly more or less further sideways and / or slightly rotated on the transport device. The latter is particularly important with objects that are not completely rotationally symmetrical (rotationally asymmetrical), such as a rectangular bottle. When the hot glass objects have just been formed, the glass is still somewhat deformable and the touching of these hot objects can lead to undesired surface defects (imperfections). For this reason, the still hot objects cannot be mechanically placed at a desired position and in the desired orientation on the transport device.
When an object that is not completely rotationally symmetrical, such as a rectangular bottle, is placed slightly rotated on the transport device, an edge of a wall of the bottle can fall within an already set inspection zone and the bottle will be detected as imperfect. As a result, in practice, rectangular (or rectangular parts of) bottles are often not inspected for imperfections when they have just left the forming machine.
If the objects are placed more or less sideways on the transport device, the maximum inspection zone may be too small if the object is closer to, or too large if the object is further away from the camera. The inspection will then not be reliable enough to detect an imperfection. Although this problem can be solved by using cameras with so-called telecentric lenses, these lenses will have to have a diameter of at least the height of bottles, which makes these cameras relatively expensive. For that reason, the use of cameras with telecentric lenses is often not the desired solution.
It is also possible that both situations, variations in orientation and position, occur simultaneously.
There is therefore a need for a solution with which the inspection of transparent hot objects, such as a newly formed glass product, on a transport device can take place as well as possible without the orientation and / or the position of the object making inspection difficult, adversely affected or even impossible. The solution is offered by the method with the features according to claim 1 and a device according to claim 9.
It is an object of the invention to provide a method for detecting imperfections in transparent hot objects such as glass products, which objects are inspected after they have been formed and placed on a transport device.
To this end, the method is characterized by the following steps: a. Taking one or more images of a passing object; b. calculating one or more position parameters of said object on the basis of one or more images; c. setting an inspection zone on one or more images of said object on the basis of one or more position parameters.
The inspection zone on the images taken from a passing object can hereby be optimally adjusted if the orientation and / or the position of the object on the transport device make this necessary. For example, the inspection zone can be reduced or even split into multiple zones. This method is very effective when the objects are not completely rotationally symmetrical, such as a rectangular bottle. With this solution, the inspection zone will always be adjusted depending on the orientation and position of the passing objects. With this, objects that are rotationally asymmetrical or that have rotationally asymmetrical parts can be inspected as optimally as possible.
One of the position parameters is the distance of the object from a reference line, for example the center line of the conveyor. This distance can be used to, among other things, adjust the inspection zone more precisely. Another position parameter is the angle that a wall of the object directed towards the viewing direction of a observation means makes with respect to a reference line, for example the center line of the conveying device.
A favorable embodiment of the method according to the present invention is characterized in that at least two images are taken under different viewing directions of a passing object. These viewing directions are preferably substantially perpendicular to each other. Thus, at least one image from the top and at least one image from the side, along the conveyor belt, can be taken of the object. Also, preferably, one image can be used to calculate the position parameters to set the inspection zone in the other image based on this. For example, the image taken from the top can serve to calculate the position parameters and set the inspection zone (for the other image) on the basis thereof, while the image from the side is utilized for inspecting the object with the set inspection zone.
In a further favorable embodiment of the method according to the present invention, more than two images are taken, each with a different viewing direction, wherein at least one image is used to calculate the position parameters on the basis of which for each other image, depending on the viewing direction thereof , a custom inspection zone is set. With this, different images of the same object can be taken from multiple angles and, depending on the position and orientation of that object relative to each viewing direction, a different, adjusted inspection zone can be set to further improve the detection of imperfections.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device for detecting imperfections in transparent hot objects such as glass products - which objects after they have been formed and placed on a transport device are inspected - comprising: - at least one sensing means, for example a camera, which takes one or more images of a passing object; - an image processing unit adapted to process the taken images.
To this end, the device is characterized in that said image processing unit calculates one or more position parameters on the basis of the images taken by the observation means, on the basis of which the image processing unit sets an inspection zone of the images of said object. Said image processing unit thereby calculates, as one of the position parameters, a distance from the object to a reference line, for example the center line of the transport device. Another position parameter that the image processing unit can calculate is an angle that a wall of the object facing a observation means makes with a reference line, for example the center line of the transport device.
A favorable embodiment of the device according to the present invention is characterized in that the device comprises at least two observation means which take images with different viewing directions of the passing object. The at least two monitoring means are preferably positioned at least substantially perpendicularly to each other. At least one of the observation means may be positioned at the top of the conveyor and at least one of the other observation means may be positioned at the side of the conveyor. The top water heater may also be positioned at the bottom of the conveyor if the conveyor is transparent.
Preferably, the image processing unit calculates the position parameters based on the images taken by one of the observation means, after which the image processing unit sets up the inspection zone for the images taken by at least one other observation means based on these position parameters. Hereby, the images taken by the top face water means can be used to determine the position parameters and use them to set the inspection zones of other images.
The device according to the present invention can comprise more than two observation means, each of which takes images with a different viewing direction of the passing objects. With this, a passing object can be viewed from multiple angles. The image processing unit can use the images from at least one observation means, for example those at the top, to calculate the position parameters and on the basis thereof adjust the inspection zone for images from any other observation means, depending on the viewing direction thereof. That is to say, since each observation means has its own viewing direction, it is assigned its own inspection zone. This allows multiple cameras to be applied and each camera can have a different inspection zone depending on the viewing direction, which can further improve the detection of imperfections. The viewing direction of each observation means is then known to the image processing unit, so that this information can be used to set an inspection zone for images from each camera with a different viewing direction and to adjust this inspection zone when the next passing object has a different orientation and / or or position.

The forming machine forms bottles of the lumps of molten glass and places these hot bottles (2) on the conveyor belt (1) that transports the bottles (along cameras) for further treatments. The bottles (2) are inspected for imperfections (imperfections), for example deformation, inclusions or gas bubbles. The bottles with detected imperfections are then removed.
A simple embodiment of the invention is shown in Figure 1 in which two observation means are used, for example two cameras. Of these two cameras, one camera (4) is on the side of the conveyor belt (1), while the other camera (3) is positioned above the conveyor belt (1). These two cameras take images of the passing bottles (2) that have already been placed on the conveyor belt (1) by the forming machine (not shown). The transport device transports the bottles (2) in the direction of the arrow, from right to left. Here you can see how the bottles (2) can stand on the conveyor belt (1) slightly rotated. Both cameras are connected to an image processing unit (5), for example a (signal) processor, which can process the images of a bottle taken by the cameras in order to detect the possible imperfections in the inspection zone on each image of a bottle. The camera (3), which is above the belt (1), takes pictures of the passing bottles (2) from the top while the camera (4) on the side of the belt takes pictures from the side.
In dit figuur vallen de rechter rand van de voorwand en de linker rand van de achterwand van de fles, gezien vanuit de zij camera (4), binnen de inspectiezone (6).Now, since the bottles (2) can rotate on the belt, an inspection zone (6) on an image taken by the side camera (4) can also catch an edge of the hot bottle (2). In that case, a good inspection of imperfections will be virtually impossible and the image processing unit will detect an imperfection. Figure 2a clearly shows that the inspection zone (6) falls completely within a wall of the bottle (2) and that a large part of the bottle can therefore be inspected; the bottle (2) in this case is completely straight on the belt and with that the side camera (4) can look straight at the bottle (2). This is not the case with bottle (2) in Figure 2b, in which the bottle (2) is turned slightly. The top view shows whether the bottle is straight or twisted on the belt and the dotted lines show whether the inspection zone catches the edges or not. Figure 2b clearly shows how one or more edges of the bottle can fall within the inspection zone (6) and thus make the inspection impossible. In this figure, the right edge of the front wall and the left edge of the rear wall of the bottle, viewed from the side camera (4), fall within the inspection zone (6).
The top camera (3) on the top of the conveyor belt (1) can take images of the passing bottles (2) with a substantially perpendicular viewing direction which are then processed by the image processing unit (5) to calculate a number of position parameters. For example, an angle can be calculated which makes the bottle (2) with a reference line, for example the center line (9) of the conveyor belt (1). When the bottle (2) is straight on the belt, the side camera (4) (Figure 1) will have a good view of the wall of the bottle (2) facing the camera (4). In that case, the bottle (2) is at an angle of 0 ° to the center line (9) of the tire and as a result, the inspection zone (6) does not have to be adjusted.
In figure 1 the bottles (2) are turned or not turned with respect to the center line (9). For example, it can be seen that the bottles (2), from left to right, have an angle of almost + 45 °, - 45 °, 0 °, - 60 ° and + 60 °, respectively. Here a rotation of a bottle with the clock hands is considered positive, while a counter-clockwise rotation is considered negative. In this embodiment, the top camera (3) takes images from the top, which images are used by the image processing unit (5) to calculate the angle that a passing bottle (2) makes with the reference line (9). This angle is then used to adjust the inspection zone (6) to the image of that bottle taken by camera (4). For example, the inspection zone of a bottle that has a smaller angle (in an absolute sense) is less reduced than a bottle with a larger angle. The inspection zone is therefore always set based on the rotation angle of the bottle. It goes without saying that an angle regardless of its sign (+/-) will have the same effect on the inspection zone. The inspection zone (6) of a bottle (2) that is not rotated on the belt (1) (angle of 0 °) is maximum, while that of a bottle (2) with a large angle (in an absolute sense) is relatively much smaller could be. Thus, the inspection zone (6) becomes smaller and smaller as the angle approaches (+/-) 90 °.
Figure 3 shows a situation in which the bottles (2) stand on the center line (9) of the conveyor belt (1) or on either side thereof. That is, the bottles (2) can come closer to or further from the camera (4). Although the positions of bottles are somewhat exaggerated in this figure, this may be the case when the bottles are very small in relation to the width of the conveyor belt. In that case the inspection zone must also be set, namely a larger inspection zone for the bottles closer to the camera and a smaller inspection zone for farther-away bottles.
The image processing unit (5) can, based on the images taken by, for example, a camera (3) at the top of the belt (1), calculate the distance from the bottle (2) to a reference line, for example the center line (9) of the conveyor belt (1). Based on the distance, the image processing unit (5) can set a suitable inspection zone (6) for images from camera (4).
In the case of multiple reference lines, the image processing unit (5) can set a suitable inspection zone (6) for each bottle (2) based on a reference line associated with the bottle. This is demonstrated in the particular embodiment of the invention in Figure 4. In this embodiment there are four cameras, three (4, 7 and 8) on the side of the tape (1), all three having the same viewing direction, and a top camera ( 3). The special feature of this embodiment is that there are three reference lines (9, 10, and 11) and the forming machine places the bottles in these three positions. The side cameras are at the same distance from the tape (1) and have the same viewing direction. Each side camera (9, 10, or 11), in this embodiment, is intended for one of the three positions. The image processing unit (5) thus determines for each side camera the inspection zone (6) for images taken by the same camera.
In figure 5, also like in figure 4, four cameras have been applied. Here are three cameras (4, 7 and 8) on the side, but each camera with a different viewing direction, and one camera (3) on the top. In this embodiment, cameras (7 and 8) are rotated 45 ° relative to the camera (4) in the center, each in a different direction. For example, camera (7) is turned 45 ° to the right and camera (8) is turned 45 ° to the left. Thus, the images of the passing bottles are taken from three different angles (viewing directions). The viewing direction of each side camera (4, 7 and 8) is already known to the image processing unit (5), which then takes this into account when setting the inspection zones. The images taken by the top camera (3) are used by the image processing unit (5) to determine, for example, the angle and / or the distance of each bottle (2) passing by. Based on this angle and / or the distance and taking into account the viewing direction of each side camera (4, 7 and 8), the image processing unit (5) sets a suitable inspection zone (6) for each image taken by a side camera. The images taken by these three cameras for each passing bottle can also be compared. In this way, imperfections can be searched for much more accurately. For each bottle (2) three images can then be looked at to see, for example, whether all three or two of those images show the same imperfections.
It will be clear to a person skilled in the art that variants of the invention are conceivable without deviating from the principle. For example, a larger number of cameras can be used, the cameras can be on both sides of the conveyor belt, a reference line other than the center line can be used, multiple top cameras can occur, a top camera can be replaced by an under camera if the belt for this camera is transparent and multiple position parameters can be calculated. It is also possible to position the top camera with a different viewing direction than perpendicular to the tape. It is also possible that images are first taken by the side cameras and then by the top camera, that is, the bottles first pass the side cameras and then the top camera.
