Description

ROOF CONSTRUCTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to a roof structure support device. More particular the invention relates to a terrace covering comprising such support device.
BACKGROUND
Current roof constructions of buildings, such as terrace or porch coverings, both hereinafter referred to as veranda, usually comprise a roof part, with horizontal or sloped roof comprising roof panels, which often are transparent. These roof panels are for example made of glass or a transparent plastic, such as polycarbonate. The roof panels are usually supported by cross-beams which extend from the back of the roof to the front. These cross-beams are preferably attached to a wall to which the veranda is positioned. Optionally the cross-beams are not directly connected to the wall, but are connected to a back beam which is connected to the wall. The front of the roof is often provided with a front beam covering the roof panel’s front edge and usually serving as a gutter for draining rain water to the sides or to a rain pipe.
The cross-beams and/or front beam may be supported by one or more uprights. A veranda may cover the full width of a terrace, or may partly cover a terrace. The veranda may be positioned adjacent to a fence or other often already existing partitions or walls. A veranda may also comprise vertical panels at the front (hereinafter referred to as “front panels”) which extend often from the front-beam to the floor. For facilitating the connection between the front panels and the front-beam, the front-beam may be provided with special attachment means to which the front panels may be attached. The front panels may also be movably connected to the front beam in order to facilitate that the front panels may be moved sideways. By moving the front panels sideways, the veranda will create a more spatial effect. Although less common, vertical side panels (hereinafter referred to as “side panels”), may be attached to the roof as well. For this purpose, the cross-beams at the outer sides (hereinafter referred to as “side beams”) may be provided with special attachment means to attach the side panels. Front panels and/or side panels provide shelter in the case of wind. The front panels and/or the side panels are usually made of glass or other transparent plastic such as polycarbonate. A veranda which is covered at one or more sides by a partition, may be provided with front panels and in this way, provide protection from wind from all sides. The sides may however be not fully protect inhabitant from wind, because they are for example covered by a fence or a hedge which is not reaching completely to the side edge of the roof, or the fence or hedge may be not completely windtight. A disadvantage of the current art solutions is that after installation of a veranda there is no suitable configuration available to flexibly add and remove vertical panels. Furthermore, there are no provisions available to easily and removably mount other devices than panels.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a cost efficient and flexible solution for connecting panels and other devices to a roof construction. It is a further object of the invention to improve work efficiency in building such roof construction. It is yet a further object of the invention to provide a roof construction with optimized and maximized panel surface and minimized size of constructional elements,
The object is realized by a roof construction of a building comprising one or more beams arranged for supporting the roof, said one or more beams comprising an attachment means arranged for attaching one or more panels, wherein said attachment means comprises a groove in longitudinal direction of the one or more beams, arranged for removably inserting the one or more panels and/or a closure part, the closure part comprising a covering plate and side plates, arranged as a U profile which form fits the groove, said closure part further arranged for covering the groove at least partially by the covering plate.
The object is further realized by its embodiments as described in the following clauses. 1. A roof construction of a building comprising one or more beams arranged for supporting the roof, said one or more beams comprising an attachment means arranged for attaching one or more panels, characterized in that said attachment means comprises a groove in longitudinal direction of the one or more beams, arranged for removably inserting the one or more panels and/or a closure part, the closure part comprising a covering plate and side plates, arranged as a U profile which form fits the groove, said closure part further arranged for covering the groove at least partially by the covering plate.
In this way, a roof construction may be installed without side panels or front panels and later on easily be arranged for adding side panels and/or front panels. By inserting the closure part in a groove, the beam comprising the groove is neatly finished and offers protection against water and dust. Furthermore, there is no need to add additional beams beneath the side beams as is currently done to add side panels afterwards. With relatively little effort panels may be added and removed even after installation of the basic roof structure. 2. The roof construction according to clause 1, characterized in that said closure part is further arranged for alternatively being mounted on a panel of the one or more panels.
In this way, the closure part may serve a dual purpose and will not be lost. Later on, when the side panels or front panel is removed, the closure part may be reused as covering profile for covering the invented groove. 3. The roof construction according to clause 1, characterized in that said closure part, when mounted on said panel, is arranged for being inserted into the groove.
In this way, the closure part may be used as spacer in order to better fit a panel to the groove. Additional inserts may be inserted in the closure part if the panel is too small to be tight fitted in the closure part. 4. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the groove comprises one or more protrusions on the inside arranged for retaining the closure part after insertion. 5. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that at least one of the one or more beams is a cross-beam projecting from a backside of the roof to a front side of the roof. 6. The roof construction according to clause 5, characterized in that the cross-beam projects in a sloping direction.
Especially in the case of a sloping roof, the invention provides a solution to add side panels in such a manner that they fit a front panel at the top, instead of causing a skip in the top line of front and side panels. 7. The roof construction according to clause 5 or 6, characterized in that the crossbeam comprises a side beam positioned at a side of the roof. 8. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that a beam of the one or more beams comprises a front beam at the front side of the roof. 9. The roof construction according to clause 8, characterized in that the side beam intersects with the front beam. 10. The roof construction according to clause 9, characterized in that the groove of the cross beam is arranged for intersecting a groove of the front beam. 11. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the roof construction is arranged as a veranda roof, an awning or a canopy. 12. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that a panel of the one or more panels comprises an at least partly transparent material such as glass or Polycarbonate. 13. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that a panel of the one or more panels comprises a solar panel. 14. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that a panel of the one or more panels comprises a side panel, arranged for at least partly closing the side of the roof. 15. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the closure part is arranged for being mounted in the groove flush to the cover plate. 16. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the closure part comprises an insert which is adapted to fit and retain a panel of the one or more panels. 17. The roof construction according to clause 16, characterized in that the insert comprises a resilient or flexible material such as rubber or EPDM rubber. 18. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the groove is further arranged for receiving devices of the group comprising: - a LED strip; - a locking mechanism; - a wheel of a panel or a curtain which is arranged for being displaced through the groove. 19. The roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, characterized in that the groove is further arranged for retaining the LED strip whilst leaving a space between the LED strip and at least one side of the inside of the groove. 20. A closure part comprising a covering plate and one or more side plates, arranged as a U profile which form fits the groove of the roof construction according to any one of the preceding clauses, said closure part further arranged for covering the groove at least partially by the covering plate.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The invention is now described by the following aspects and embodiments, with reference to the figures. FIGURE 1 shows a roof construction according to an embodiment of the present invention wherein a roof part 400, comprising a cross-beam and one or more roof panels is positioned in a sloped manner on front beam 403 (comprising a gutter) and back support 401. Back support 401 is connected to a wall 300, but it may also comprise a support which is for example supported on a floor. Back support 401 and front beam 403 are connected and supported by preferably horizontal cross-beam 402. Front beam 403 comprises the invented groove 100, which is arranged for receiving one or more vertical panels.
By integrating groove 100 in the front beam a minimum height of the front beam is possible, which increases the available surface for a vertical panel.
The invention provides that cross-beam 402 (also) comprises a groove in a profile along at least a part of the length of the cross-beam. Preferably the cross-beams at the sides of the roof construction comprise these invented grooves. Preferably beams and profiles comprise aluminum extrusion profiles. FIGURE 2 shows a detail of a profile 101 comprising the invented groove 100. The groove comprises a profile with protrusions 102a,b and 103a,b. These protrusions are arranged for holding a closure part and/or for holding one or more panels or for holding devices such as a LED strip. FIGURE 3 shows an embodiment of a cross-section of a closure part 200, which may be an extrusion profile of a length suitable to fit into the length of groove 100. The extrusion profile may be an aluminum profile. In order to connect and retain the closure part 200 in groove 100, protrusions 202a and 202b are provided which are positioned between 102a,b and 103a,b respectively. Closure part 200 may preferably inserted in groove 100 by manual power. The vertical walls 204a,b of closure part 200 are slightly flexible such that protrusions 202a and 202b may slide over protrusions 102b and 103b respectively. FIGURE 4 shows profile 101 comprising groove 100 with inserted closure part 200. Preferably closure part 200 closes off groove 100 for water and dust. It serves also as an aesthetical closure, especially when cover plate 205 is laying flush with the surface of profile 101. Closure part 200 may be removed as soon as there is a need or a wish by the owner of the roof construction to add additional panels to the side or to the front of the roof construction. As soon as the owner wishes to remove the panels, the closure part may be inserted again for protection and for aesthetics. FIGURE 5 shows profile 101 and groove 100 with flexible inserts 104a,b. The inserts may be of rubber or artificial rubber, such as Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), or any other resilient material. Inserts 104a,b are arranged for retaining panel 404. Instead of inserts, a flexible covering, covering at least a part of the part of the panel that is inserted in the groove 100 may be used. Panel 404 may be inserted into groove 100 until it abuts the top 110 of the profile around groove 100, but it may also be inserted only for a certain distance and leave a space between panel 404 and top 110 without falling out of groove 100. This is especially useful in the case of a sloped profile, whereby a sloping cut-off of a panel is not exactly at the same angle of the sloped profile. The tolerance of the groove together with the panel will compensate to a certain extent in this case. Likewise, inaccurate cutting for example of a hollow Polycarbonate panel will, by the increased tolerance, not influence a secure connection with the profile, providing a wind-tight and aesthetically pleasing connection. FIGURE 6 shows profile 101 and groove 100, whereby closure part 200 is used as finishing profile for panel 404 by turning the closure part 200 upside-down and inserting panel 404 into the closure part. The closure part 200 together with panel 404 is inserted in groove 100. The upside-down closure part 200 may in turn be retained by protrusions 102a,b and 103a,b. FIGURE 7 shows the invented groove 100 the closure part inserted and within the closure part, a LED strip 500 is inserted. In this way, the LED strip 500 may be prepared and inserted in the closure part before inserting the closure part in groove 100, which enables a great work efficiency. LED strip 500 may be held against falling out by resting on protrusions 203a,b. LED strip 500 comprises one or more LEDs 501. LEDs 501 may be arranged on a strip with a distance between the LEDs 501. Considering that (especially) in the case of LEDs 501 comprising power LEDS, the LEDS 501 disseminate heat. Therefore, the space above the LED strip 500 is left open deliberately, in order to transport the heat away from the LEDs 501 LED strip 500 may be inserted between protrusions 102a,b and 103a,b without the use of the closure part. Optionally a transparent or semi-transparent version of closure part 200 may be inserted in groove 100 upside-down, in order to cover the LED strip and to provide an even distribution of the light coming from the LEDs 501. LED strip 500 may in this case be connected to top 110 of the groove with LEDs 501 facing down. In that case the profile, especially when made of aluminum, may serve as heat sink. Likewise, other devices may be inserted in groove 100. In this way, groove 100 becomes a multifunctional feature of the beams into which the groove is arranged.
It should be noted that the above-mentioned embodiments illustrate rather than limit the invention, and that those skilled in the art will be able to design many alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the appended claims. In the claims, any reference signs placed between parentheses shall not be construed as limiting the claim. Use of the verb "to comprise" and its conjugations does not exclude the presence of elements or steps other than those stated in a claim.
