Abstract
The present invention relates to a bifunctional 5 recombinant terpene synthase enzyme which is able to biosynthesize linalool and nerolidol separately or simultaneously and the method of producing thereof. The recombinant terpene synthase having a gene sequence as set forth in SEQ ID No: 2 to produce linalool and nerolidol in a controlled environment. Specifically, a nucleic acid segment comprising nucleic acid encoding terpene synthase specifically linalool/nerolidol synthase protein is isolated from Plectranthus amboinicus. The nucleic acid segment which is PamTps1 gene encodes the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 1 and the nucleic acid segment is positioned under the control of a promoter to produce a recombinant vector. The recombinant vector expresses linalool/nerolidol synthase upon introduction into a host cell to produce recombinant host cell wherein the host cell is a prokaryotic cell, i.e. Escherichia coli. The recombinant host cell produces linalool and nerolidol simultaneously once cultured under specific conditions.
