Abstract

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a magnetic-disk glass substrate (1) with which a highly smooth surface can be obtained after cleaning processing. In the present invention, in cleaning processing in which the surface (11, 12, 13) of a glass substrate (1) subjected to mirror-polishing is brought into contact with an alkaline cleaning liquid and cleaned, the cleaning liquid contains an organic alkali represented by General Formula I: [(R)4N]+OH? where R represents an alkyl group, and at least one of four alkyl groups binding to a N atom has at least one hydroxyl group (OH group). The cleaning processing is performed while an increase of the content of sodium ions and potassium ions in the cleaning liquid due to elution of sodium ions or potassium ions from the glass substrate (1) during the cleaning processing is suppressed by addition of a chelating agent for capturing alkali metal ions, dilution with water, or exchange of the cleaning liquid.
