PROVIDED ARE AN ALUMINUM ALLOY SUBSTRATE FOR MAGNETIC STORAGE DISKS AND A MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF, WHICH SUBSTRATE HAS SUPERIOR SHOCK RESISTANCE, FLATNESS, AND PLATING SURFACE SMOOTHNESS. THE ALUMINUM ALLOY SUBSTRATE INCLUDES AN ALUMINUM ALLOY, HAS A FLATNESS OF 5 ?m OR LESS, AND HAS AN AREA PERCENTAGE OF EQUIAXED GRAINS IN THE SUBSTRATE SURFACE OF 30% OR LESS, WHERE THE ALUMINUM ALLOY CONTAINS SI OF LESS THAN 0.03%; FE OF LESS THAN 0.03%; MG OF FROM GREATER THAN 3.5% TO LESS THAN 4.5%; CR OF LESS THAN 0.20%; AND AT LEAST ONE OF CU OF FROM GREATER THAN 0.01% TO LESS THAN 0.20% AND ZN OF FROM GREATER THAN 0.01% TO LESS THAN 0.40%, IN MASS PERCENT, WITH THE REMAINDER CONSISTING OF AL AND INEVITABLE IMPURITIES.
