Abstract

TO ENABLE PRODUCTION OF HIGH-PURITY DEIONIZED WATER WHILE LIMITING THE GENERATION OF SCALE. AN ELECTRODEIONIZATION APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING DEIONIZED WATER HAS AT LEAST ONE DEIONIZATION TREATMENT UNIT PROVIDED BETWEEN CATHODE CHAMBER E1 AND ANODE CHAMBER E2, THE DEIONIZATION TREATMENT UNIT INCLUDING DEIONIZATION CHAMBER D AND A PAIR OF CONCENTRATION CHAMBERS C1 AND C2 PLACED ADJACENT TO DEIONIZATION CHAMBER D ON OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF AND FILLED WITH ANION EXCHANGERS. THE DEIONIZATION CHAMBER D IS PARTITIONED BY AN ION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE INTO FIRST DEIONIZATION CELL D-1 ADJACENT TO ONE CONCENTRATION CHAMBER C1 AND SECOND DEIONIZATION CELL D-2 ADJACENT TO THE OTHER CONCENTRATION CHAMBER C2. FIRST DEIONIZATION CELL D-1 IS FILLED WITH AN ANION EXCHANGER. SECOND DEIONIZATION CELL D-2 IS FILLED WITH AN ANION EXCHANGER AND A CATION EXCHANGER IN A SEQUENCE SUCH THAT THE ION EXCHANGER THROUGH WHICH WATER TO BE TREATED FINALLY PASSES IS THE ANION EXCHANGER. BIPOLAR MEMBRANE 4A IS DISPOSED ON THE CATHODE SIDE OF THE ANION EXCHANGER FILLING SECOND DEIONIZATION CELL D-2 WHILE BEING ORIENTATED SO THAT ITS ANION EXCHANGE MEMBRANE SURFACE FACES THE ANION EXCHANGER.
