A ROTARY COMPRESSOR INCLUDES A CYLINDER (5) HAVING A CYLINDER CHAMBER (6), A PISTON (9) WHICH SWINGS IN THE CYLINDER CHAMBER (6), A VANE GROOVE (10) FORMED IN THE CYLINDER (5), AND A VANE (11) WHICH RECIPROCATES IN THE VANE GROOVE (10), IN WHICH A TIP END (11A) OF THE VANE (11) IS SWINGABLY CONNECTED TO THE PISTON (9). IN A STATE WHERE THE VANE (11) MOST PROJECTS INWARD FROM AN INNER PERIPHERAL SURFACE (5A) OF THE CYLINDER (5), A BACKMOST SURFACE OF THE VANE (11) PROJECTS BEYOND THE OTHER END (10B) OF THE VANE GROOVE (10). IT IS POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE A ROTARY COMPRESSOR IN WHICH A DISTANCE BETWEEN TWO CONTACT POINTS (201,202) OF THE VANE ON WHICH FRICTION RESISTANCE FORCES WITH RESPECT TO THE VANE GROOVE (10) ACTS WHEN THE VANE (11) RECIPROCATES IN THE VANE GROOVE (10) CAN BE INCREASED, A SLIDING LOSS IS REDUCED, AND AN INPUT LOSS IS SMALL.
