A MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE COMPOSITION IS PROVIDED WHICH COMPRISES MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE PARTICLES CONTAINING IRON AND/OR MANGANESE TOGETHER WITH SULFUR, WHEREIN A CONTENT M OF IRON AND/OR MANGANESE MEASURED BY AN ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETER IS IN A RANGE OF 10 TO 1000 PPM BASED ON THE MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE PARTICLES AND A CONTENT S OF SULFUR MEASURED BY AN INFRARED ABSORPTION METHOD IS IN A RANGE OF 10 TO 1800 PPM BASED ON THE MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE PARTICLES AND A RATIO S/M OF THE CONTENT S OF SULFUR TO THE CONTENT M OF IRON AND/OR MANGANESE IS IN A RANGE OF 1.0 TO 1.8. THE MAGNESIUM HYDROXIDE COMPOSITION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION IS NOT ONLY EXCELLENT IN FLAME RETARDANCY AND ITS SUSTENTATION WHEN BLENDED INTO A RESIN, BUT ALSO IMPARTS EXCELLENT HEAT DETERIORATION RESISTANCE AND HUE TO A MOLDED ARTICLE.
