Abstract
IN THE CASE OF A PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF FOAMED SLAG (7) ON HIGH CHROMIUM CONTENT STEEL MELTS (6) IN AN ELECTRIC FURNACE (1) IN WHICH A MIXTURE OF A METAL OXIDE AND CARBON IS INTRODUCED INTO THE FURNACE (1), THE METAL OXIDE IN THE SLAG (7) IS REDUCED BY THE CARBON AND THE GASES FORMED FORM BUBBLES IN THE SLAG (7) AND THESE CONSEQUENTLY FOAM THE SLAG (7), THE GAS DEVELOPMENT AND CONSEQUENTLY THE FOAMING PROCESS SHOULD BE CONTROLLABLE. IN THIS RESPECT, IT IS PROPOSED THAT THE MIXTURE OF METAL OXIDE AND CARBON AND, IF NECESSARY, AN IRON CARRIER BE INTRODUCED AS MOULDED PARTS, SUCH AS PELLETS, WHICH ARE COMPRESSED AND/OR PROVIDED WITH A BINDER. BY ADJUSTING THE PROPERTIES, IN PARTICULAR THE DENSITY AND/OR COMPRESSION PROPERTIES OF THE PELLETS, THE GAS DEVELOPMENT BECOMES CONTROLLABLE WITH RESPECT TO THE LOCATION, TYPE AND TIME.
