Abstract

A LIGHT DIFFUSION FILM (1) COMPRISING TWO PHASES WITH DIFFERENT REFRACTIVE INDEXES THAT SCATTER AND TRANSMIT LIGHT, CHARACTERIZED IN THAT THE PHASE WITH THE LARGER REFRACTIVE INDEX COMPRISES NUMEROUS REGIONS HAVING COLUMNAR STRUCTURES RUNNING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE FILM THICKNESS, WHEREIN THE NUMEROUS REGIONS COMPRISE REGIONS IN WHICH THE LATERAL CROSS-SECTIONAL SHAPES OF THE COLUMNAR STRUCTURES ARE ELONGATED AND THE ELONGATED REGIONS ARE ORIENTED IN A SPECIFIC DIRECTION OF THE FILM, AND THE FILM IS USED AS A LIGHT DIFFUSION FILM WITH SELECTIVE LIGHT DIFFUSING PROPERTIES AND LIGHT CONVERGENCE TO PROVIDE BRIGHT IMAGES WITHIN A WIDER VIEWING ANGLE THAN ACCORDING TO THE PRIOR ART. THERE ARE ALSO PROVIDED AN OPTICAL FILM AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE (91) WHICH EMPLOY THE LIGHT DIFFUSION FILM.
