Abstract

A ROTARY STAGE 53 COMPRISING A RECTANGULAR ELONGATED BAR 51 AND LEGS 52 INTEGRALLY WITH THE BAR AT ITS OPPOSITE ENDS IS PROVIDED. A SQUARE OR RECTANGULAR IC POSITIONING STAND 55 IS MOUNTED ON THE UPPER SURFACE OF THE BAR 51, AND A ROTARY SHAFT 54 FOR ROTATABLY SUPPORTING THE ROTARY STAGE AND THE IC POSITIONING STAND IS SECURED TO THE ROTARY STAGE. A PAIR OF POSITIONING ARM 57 ARE PIVOTALLY SUPPORTED ON RESPECTIVE PIVOT PINS 56 MOUNTED TO AND EXTENDING FROM THE INNER SURFACE OF THE LEGS OF THE ROTARY STAGE RESPECTIVELY, AND A PLANAR PLATE-LIKE ACTUATOR 58 IS PROVIDED FOR ABUTTING AGAINST THE REARWARD END OF THE POSITIONING ARMS TO SWING THEM SIMULTANEOUSLY ABOUT THE PIVOT PINS. THE WEIGHT OF EACH OF THE POSITIONING ARMS IS SO DISTRIBUTED THAT THE REARWARD END THEREOF IS LOWERED IN ITS FREE STATE AND THAT AN IC ABUTMENT PORTION FORMED AT THE FORWARD END OF EACH OF THE POSITIONING ARMS IS STOPPED IN ABUTMENT WITH THE CORRESPONDING CORNER OF THE IC POSITIONING STAND, WHEREBY THE IC DEPOSITED ON THE POSITIONING STAND MAY BE URGED BY THE WEIGHT OF THE POSITIONING ARMS SO AS TO BE POSITIONED IN PLACE. THE ACTUATOR IS ACTUATED TO ABUT AGAINST AND RAISE THE REARWARD ENDS OF THE POSITIONING ARMS, WHEREBY THE IC ABUTMENT PORTIONS OF THE POSITIONING ARMS ARE LOWERED OUTWARDLY AND DOWNWARDLY AWAY FROM THE POSITIONING STAND TO EXPOSE ALL OF THE SIDE WALLS OF THE POSITIONING STAND.(FIG. 6)
