A FLUID FILTER (30) FOR THE REMOVAL OF CONTAMINANTS FROM ENGINE OIL HAS A HOUSING (31) WITH AN INLET (38) AND OUTLET (44) CONNECTED TO ITS ENGINE''S LUBRICATION SYSTEM.THE FILTERING OF THE OIL IS EFFECTED USING A DISPOSABLE FILTER ELEMENT (10), WHICH HAS A FILTERING MEDIUM OF PAPER (21) INTERPOSED BETWEEN A CANISTER (11) AND A CENTRE TUBE (15). THE OIL TO BE FILTERED ENTERS AN INLET AT ONE END OF THE CANISTER (11), PASSES THROUGH THE FILTERING MEDIUM (21) TO TRAP THE CONTAMINANTS, AND THE FILTERED OIL THEN PASSES THROUGH A FLOW PASSAGE (20) TO THE CENTRE TUBE (15) WHICH COMMUNICATES WITH THE FILTER HOUSING OUTLET (44) VIA A CENTRE POST (41) ONTO WHICH THE FILTER ELEMENT (10) IS CLAMPED BY A KNURLED KNOB (46) AND COMPRESSIOR SPRING (49) PROVIDED WITH SUITABLE WASHERS (47, 51) AND SEALS (48, 52).(FIG 2)
