Abstract

An oil filter for a motorcycle comprises a filter element 2 held in place by a perforated tube 6 extending between a flange 1 at the base and a washer 4 and nut 5 at the top. The filter element is made of felt. A magnet 3 surrounds the nut 5. The filter may replace the original filter in a classic "oil in frame" motorcycle, by sandwiching the base flange 1 between the oil tube frame 10 and the original sump plate 9, with the interposition of paper gaskets 7.

Description

OIL IN FRAME FILTER TECH FIELD The invention relates to an oil filtration kit for Triumph and BSA motorcycles.
BACKGROUND BSA/Triumph produced their oil in frame motor cycle from 1971-1988. during this time the filtration system used was a simple'Top Hat' arrangement, comprising of a single course wir mesh.
It has been long acknowledged that the : oil system falls short in respect of the four pints of oil the frame carries. A meagre amouni for a 650cc and later 750cc air cooled interna: combustion engine. Also the original'Top Hat' filter is too course for efficient filtration.
The oil therefore works hard in cooling and lubricating the engines moving parts thus accelerating the wearing process.
Triumph and BSA'oil in frame'motorcycles are regarded as'classic'and very many are ridden and restored today.
ESSENTIAL TECH FEATURES: The O. I. F. (oil in frame) filter invented comprises of a self supporting felt filter mounted by means of a perforated threaded tube attached to a base flange.-The base is sandwiched between the oil tube frame and the original sump plate, gaskets being employed either side, fixed by four studs and self locking nuts.
The accompanying drawings show the component parts of the invention (fig 1) and fitting to the motorcycle frame (fig 2).
