A WASHING MACHINE INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING IELEMENT: (A) A DRYER SHAFT (27) FOR SPINNING A BASKET (24) DOUBLING AS A WASHING BASKET AND A SPIN-DRYING BASKET, (B) A WASHING SHAFT (29) FOR SPINNING AN AGITATOR (25) DISPOSED IN THE BASKET (24), AND ALIGNED WITH THE DRYER SHAFT (27) ON THE SAME AXIAL LINE, (C) A MOTOR (34) FOR SPINNING THE DRYER SHAFT (27) AND THE WASHING SHAFT (29) , (D) A SPEED REDUCTION MECHANISM (30) FOR REDUCING A ROTATING SPEED OF THE MOTOR (34) TO SPIN THE WASHING SHAFT (29) AND (E) A CLUTH (47) FOR TRANSMITTING THE ROTATING FORCE OF THE MOTOR (34) EITHER TO THE DRYER SHAFT (27) OR TO THE WASHING SHAFT (29) BY SWITCHING. THE SPEED REDUCTION MECHANISM (30) IS ALIGNED WITH THE MOTOR (34) ON THE SAME AXIAL LINE VIA AN INSULATOR (40). THIS CONSTRUCTION SECURES THE INSULATION BETWEEN THE MOTOR (34) AND THE SPEED REDUCTION MECHANISM (30), THEREBY IMPROVING THE SAFETY AS WELL AS AN ASSEMBLING EFFICIENCY OF THE WASHING MACHINE.
