A MICROORGANISM DERIVED FROM A MUTANT STRAIN OF BREVIBACTERIUM LACTOFERMENTUM OR CORYNEBACTERIUM GLUTAMICUM WHICH IS CAPABLE OF GROWING IN A SOLID OR LIQUID MEDIUM UNDER AEROBIC CONDITIONS TO PRODUCE L-GLUTAMIC ACID CHARACTERISED IN THAT THE MUTANT IS CAPABLE TO GROW AND PRODUCE L-GLUTAMIC ACID WHEN THE OSMOTIC PRESSURE OF THE LIQUID MEDIUM REACHES AND GO BEYOND THE EQUIVALENT OSMOTIC PRESSURE OF 10 G/DL SODIUM CHLORIDE.
