Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus built entirely in glass and with the corresponding procedure for the accurate determination of the volume and stability of foam generated by the dispersion of a pure gas or mix of them inside a binary mixture or multicomponent in a liquid state at a temperature interval from (20 to 120)°C and at the saturation pressure. The apparatus is characterized for being built using the pneumatic method of continuous-flow gas, having a glass cylindrical tube of constant transversal area with great accuracy and constant height to obtain significative liquid/gas heights from the studied samples. The apparatus and procedure of the present invention allow determining experimentally the volume and the stability of foam generated by the dispersion of a pure gas or mix of them inside a binary mixture or multicomponent in a liquid state, only by measuring the foam height in relation to the liquid height before gas bubbling, in order to achieve this, once the foam-meter is washed and saturated with the under-study system it is connected to the recirculating bath at constant temperature which was previously put to work for controlling temperature. The foam height measurement is done in the foaming tube having special care of closing the screwed glass joints well containing temperature sensors and the joint used for adding the studied samples, with the aim of working all the time at a constant flow, measured with the flowmeter, for this secures that the experiment could be repeated whenever required as long as the sample and the concentration remain the same.
