Un proceso para producir cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano como un co-producto de la produccion de 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroetano mediante hidrofluoracion de tricloroetileno el cual comprende (i) tratar la corriente de producto de 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroetano que contiene cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano y ácido fluorhídrico para forma una mezcla de 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroetano y cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano y (ii) destilar la mezcla para separar cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano esencialmente puro a partir de la mezcla. Una destilacion preferida en la etapa (ii) comprende (iia) destilar la mezcla para separar 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroetano esencialmente puro y formar una segunda mezcla de 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroetano y cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano y (iib) destilar tal segunda mezcla para separar cloro-2,2,2-trifluoroetano esencialmente puro a partir de la segunda mezcla.
