Abstract
Se describe un medio de almacenamiento optico con capacidad de escala de grises que comprende: una pluralidad de sustratos que dan de frente en serie; capas de alineacion dispuestas en uno o ambos lados de los sustratos para dar par o pares de capas de alineacion en donde por lo menos una de las capas de alineacion de cada uno del par o pares de capas de alineacion es una capa de alineacion optica, y en donde la capa o capas de alineacion optica comprende moléculas o porciones anisotropicamente absorbentes; la capa o capas de cristal líquido dispuestas entre el par o pares de capas de alineacion; en donde, cada una de la capa o capas de cristal líquido comprende tres o más regiones de alineacion que tienen tres o más diferentes estados de alineacion; y, en donde los estados diferentes de alineacion están controlados por exposicion de la capa o capas de alineacion optica con luz polarizada de una longitud de onda o longitudes de onda dentro de la banda de absorcion de las moléculas o porciones anisotropicamente absorbentes en el mismo. La invencion se dirige también a los discos compactos, discos compactos borrables, dispositivos de almacenamiento fotográfico y pantallas de almacenamiento.
