Abstract

Un sistema de enfriamiento para cátodos, o electrodos (11) en hornos de arco eléctrico de corriente directa, comprendiendo los cátodos (11) una parte de grafito consumible inferior (11a), desde donde se hace la chispa del arco eléctrico, asociada en la parte superior con una parte metálica hueca (11b) por medio de una junta (13), incluyéndose adentro de la parte metálica (11b) un circuito de enfriamiento cerrado (19) con agua u otro fluido de enfriamiento cerrado (19) con agua u otro fluido de enfriamiento similar, que define un área de evaporacion 17 configurada sustancialmente en cooperacion con el extremo inferior de la parte metálica (11b), y un área de condensacion (18) configurada en cooperacion con un área superior deseada de la parte metálica (11b), cooperando el área de condensacion (18) con un intercambiador de calor (15) asociado con la pared externa de parte metálica (11b), incluyéndose también un canal ascendente (14) para el vapor (19a) desde el área de evaporacion (17) hasta el área de condensacion (18), y cuando menos un canal descendente (16), por el cual desciende la condensacion, bajo la fuerza de la gravedad, desde el área de condensacion (18) hasta el área de evaporacion (17), comunicándose el canal descendente (14) y el canal ascendente (16) uno con el otro en correspondencia con el área de evaporacion (17) y elárea de condensacion (18), correspondiendo el canal descendente (16) con la pared interna de la parte metálica (11b), y que tiene una seccion inferior a la seccion del canal ascendente (14).
