La invencion se refiere a amidas de ácido N-(4-piridil)-carboxílico de la formula (I): en donde Q es piridilo sustituido; A es hidrogeno, alquilo, acilo o aralquilo; e Y-Z es un grupo de hidrocarburo modificado opcionalmente, o Y es una ligadura o un grupo bivalente y Z es arilo, O-arilo, cicloalquilo, cicloalquenilo o heterociclilo; todos los cuales pueden estar sustituidos. La invencion se refiere también a métodos para preparar dichos compuestos, a los intermediarios usados en su preparacion y a su uso como agentes para controlar plagas, en particular como insecticidas, acaricidas y nematicidas, así como su uso como fungicidas.
