Abstract

Preparar compuestos estructurales de carburo de boro-aluminio mediante la infiltracion de aluminio o aleacion de aluminio fundido dentro de una preforma porosa que está ya sea no cocida o cocida a una temperatura de hasta 1800 degree C para formar un "cermet" densificado y después tratar con calor el "cermet" en una atmosfera que contiene aire u oxigeno para formar una capa de superficie externa densa de oxido de aluminio. Los "cermets" estructurales resultantes pueden resistir la exposicion prolongada a temperaturas por encima del punto de fusion del aluminio sin sufrir degradacion indebida de las propiedades físicas tales como la resistencia a la flexion.
