Abstract

A guide wire (50) is advanced through a lumen (42) of the plunger (40) which causes a plug (49) to be pushed into the variable volume chamber (25) and a guide wire ( 50) is advanced into the venous lumen. In this form, the guide wire (50) can be inserted into the venous lumen without external blood leakage.
