A method of applying a mineral filled thermoplastic white side compound to the black sides of conventionally forged tires comprises the step of providing a tire (10) at least partially set or cured and having a black sidewall (21); applying a mineral filled thermoplastic white side compound to the black rim side wall to form a white side (25); and bond the white side to the rim sidewall under sufficient pressure and heat to provide acceptable adhesion without the use of a solvent or water based adhesive. The present invention also provides a rim (10) having a circumferentially grooved black side wall area (21) and a white side compound filled with bonded mineral (25).
