Abstract
Un método que utiliza polarimetría de formación de imágenes por infrarrojos para detectar la presencia de fluidos extraños en el agua comprende estimar una respuesta de polarización esperada para un fluido extraño que se desea detectar; el petróleo de un derrame de petróleo es un tal fluido extraño; una posición óptima de un polarímetro para tomar imágenes de la superficie del agua se determina a partir de la respuesta de polarización esperada; el polarímetro se posiciona en la posición óptima y registra datos de imagen en bruto de la superficie del agua para obtener imágenes polarizadas del área; las imágenes polarizadas se corrigen, y los productos de los datos de polarización y de IR se computan; los productos de los datos de polarización y de IR se convierten a un conjunto de datos multidimensionales para formar imágenes multidimensionales; se aplican algoritmos de contraste a las imágenes multidimensionales para formar imágenes de contraste mejorado, a partir de las cuales se pueden detectar automáticamente los fluidos extraños.
